Tesla's 6-Seat Model Y L Spotted in Germany Ahead of European Launch
Tesla’s effort to broaden its family-focused lineup in Europe is accelerating. The long-wheelbase version of its popular crossover is now testing on European roads, indicating that a regional debut may be close.
European outlet Carwow captured the Model Y L running on a German test track with the front and rear disguised in a black-and-white wrap. The prototype wore a German license plate and 20-inch Uberhelix wheels without aerodynamic covers. This first European sighting comes just days after the Model Y L launched in the U.S., with North American deliveries scheduled to begin this September from Gigafactory Texas.

Tesla Model Y L: Everything You Need to Know
The Model Y L is a stretched, long-wheelbase take on the standard Model Y, offering a true three-row, six-seat configuration in a 2-2-2 layout. It measures 196 inches long, which is 7 inches more than the standard Model Y. It uses a family-oriented suspension and adds premium amenities aimed at filling the gap left after Tesla discontinued the Model X earlier this year.

Performance remains strong: 0–100 km/h takes 4.5 seconds and top speed is 201 km/h. Efficiency has mirrored the Model Y Premium AWD in markets where the Model Y L is already available, so the WLTP-rated range in Europe is expected to be about 600 kilometers on the standard 19-inch wheels. The 20-inch Uberhelix wheels observed in Germany will likely trim range by roughly 10 kilometers.
The interior focuses on comfort and tech. The front seats are heated and ventilated and include a powered thigh cushion. The second row consists of heated and ventilated captain’s chairs with powered armrests and a one-touch fold function. The third row features heated seats with power recline and child seat anchors. Cabin technology includes a 16-inch central touchscreen with an 8-inch display for the second row, a 19-speaker immersive audio system, and upgraded 50-watt wireless phone chargers with active cooling. Cargo capacity reaches 89 cubic feet with all rows folded.

Battery specifics for Europe have not been disclosed. Giga Shanghai builds the Model Y L with an 88 kWh pack, while units assembled in Texas use an 83 kWh battery.
Pricing and Availability
A European introduction was expected to follow soon after the North American launch, particularly since it already received EU type approval late last year. It took a little over two months from the first U.S. camouflage sighting for orders to open there, and Europe could follow a similar cadence as Tesla finalizes production tooling at Giga Berlin.
The Model Y L debuted in China last summer before rolling out to Australia, New Zealand, and several Asian markets. In China, it is priced between the Premium (Long Range) AWD and Performance trims. In the U.S., it arrived as a flagship variant with a higher price than the Performance model.
If Tesla mirrors the U.S. approach in Europe, the Model Y L could be the priciest model in the regional lineup, likely starting around €66,990. Early orders may also be paired with a premium Launch Series package. With camouflaged testing already underway on track, European customers may not have long to wait for Tesla’s first true family hauler.
