Tesla Now Uses Grok Think Fast 2.0 With Summer Update

In-cabin voice interactions in Tesla vehicles are getting a speed and intelligence boost with the Summer 2026 Software Update (version 2026.26 and later). Following the broader rollout, Tesla confirmed that the in-cabin Grok chatbot is now powered by SpaceXAI’s latest speech model.

In a brief post on X, the official @Tesla account confirmed the upgraded backend model. “Summer Release is using Grok Think Fast 2.0,” Tesla said.

Tesla announced the Summer 2026 Update in July, with customer vehicles receiving the firmware later that same month. The release has since reached more vehicles after merging with the Full Self-Driving (Supervised) software branch in Europe.

Faster Voice Reasoning and Real-World Accuracy

Grok Voice Think Fast 2.0 is SpaceXAI’s next-generation speech-to-speech model, designed to process complex logic and conversational flow in parallel. Instead of listening to a full sentence, converting it to text, reasoning, and then generating voice audio, Think Fast 2.0 reasons through user prompts while speaking.

The architectural shift significantly reduces latency. On the Artificial Analysis Speech-to-Speech Quality Index, Think Fast 2.0 ranks first with an overall score of 82.9%, outperforming GPT-Realtime-2.1 and Gemini 3.1 Flash. It scores 97.2% in speech reasoning, 95.1% in conversational dynamics, and brings audio response latency down to 0.70 seconds — nearly half that of its predecessor.

Transcription accuracy is also improved in challenging acoustic environments. At highway speeds with tire roar, wind turbulence, and cabin music, Think Fast 2.0 delivers up to a tenfold accuracy lead over dedicated speech-to-text engines, enabling reliable communication without drivers needing to raise their voices.

Powering In-Cabin Vehicle Commands

These enhancements make Grok a better listener as Tesla rolls out expanded capabilities in the Summer Update.

Beyond conversational trivia, navigation routing, and location-based reminders, Grok can now execute direct in-vehicle commands using natural language. Drivers can adjust cabin temperature, change fan speeds, manage defrosters, and toggle options buried deeper in the vehicle’s settings without taking their hands off the wheel. There has even been discussion of bringing Grok Bot to Tesla vehicles, which would benefit from the improved speech recognition.

The voice improvements arrive alongside other Summer Update additions, including native browser video calling, a refreshed Caraoke app, and a new Preferred Routes feature. With Think Fast 2.0 handling backend reasoning for Grok, in-cabin conversational controls should feel faster and more natural on every drive.
