Tesla Model 3 Gets More Range in Europe Thanks to Just One Improvement

Increasing an electric vehicle’s range typically involves costly battery updates or new motor designs. In this case, buyers of the entry-level Model 3 in Europe are seeing a meaningful boost without any changes to the battery.

The official @teslaeurope account confirmed the new figures on X, stating, “Model 3 now comes with 572km of range (up from 534km previously), thanks to new tires.” Follow-up posts added that the update “applies to all European LHD markets.”

A Simple Wheel and Rubber Swap

The 38-kilometer increase amounts to a 7.1% improvement on the European WLTP cycle. Rather than introducing a new lithium cell chemistry or a larger battery pack, the additional distance comes entirely from a revised wheel and tire setup.

Tesla has replaced the standard 18-inch Photon wheels on the Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive with new 18-inch Prismata wheels. The entry-level RWD sedan, which originally launched last fall under the "Standard" badge, now ships with these efficiency-focused tires from the factory.

Although both wheel sets are 18 inches, improved wheel aerodynamics and a lower rolling-resistance tire compound enable the sedan to travel farther on the same stored energy.

Market Availability Across Europe

The range update applies across all European Left-Hand Drive (LHD) markets where the new 18-inch Prismata wheels are now the default configuration. That includes countries such as Germany, France, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Estonia, Lithuania, and more.

Right-Hand Drive (RHD) markets are currently excluded. In the United Kingdom and Ireland, the configurator still lists the older 18-inch Photon wheels and the previous 534-kilometer (or 332-mile) range estimate.

This emphasis on rolling efficiency aligns with a broader pattern across the lineup. Aerodynamic and thermal optimizations are delivering gains across multiple models, as seen recently when the Model Y L beat range estimates in real-world testing ahead of its first U.S. customer deliveries next month. For drivers in mainland Europe, adopting more efficient tires shows that small hardware changes can extend range without increasing prices.
