With the next-generation Tesla Roadster reveal just days away, Tesla notified invited guests that the program includes a “unique experience” that must occur outdoors and that unfavorable weather could require a change in schedule. The notice was shared on X by @DragTimes, who posted the email sent to reservation holders.
“Since this event features a unique experience that must be held outdoors, there is a possibility we may need to reschedule due to weather. We are continuing to monitor weather reports and will reach out with additional details as soon as possible.”
Update: Hours later, Tesla officially delayed the October 1 event. In a post on X, the company said the Roadster event would be rescheduled after closely monitoring the weather with meteorologists. Because the event can only be held outdoors (hint, hint), Tesla decided to move it to October 15. No rain date was announced.

Why the event must be outdoors
Staging a major product showcase outside is atypical for Tesla’s usual hangar or factory settings, but the Roadster is not a typical vehicle. Tesla is likely planning live, high-speed demonstrations that simply can’t be contained indoors. Elon Musk has previously said the production Roadster’s capabilities are so extreme that people need to witness them firsthand so the world knows the footage isn’t AI-generated.
A centerpiece of the spectacle is expected to be the long-rumored SpaceX package. Tesla has teased cold-gas thrusters capable of launching the two-door from 0 to 60 mph in under one second, and such rocket thrusters blasting compressed air demand wide safety runoffs and open skies.
That expectation gained traction when federal regulators closed Texas airspace over SpaceX’s McGregor test site through October 2, strongly hinting at propulsion testing or an outdoor demonstration tied to the event.

What to expect from the finished design
When it finally debuts, the supercar is expected to look noticeably different from the curvy red prototype first shown in 2017.
During this week’s Semi Rollout keynote, Tesla teased the new Roadster with a full-width front light bar, bringing its nose in line with the Cybertruck and refreshed Model Y. The rear haunches also appear to have more angular creases, complementing a recently published Tesla patent for an active aero wing that tilts for downforce and drag reduction.
Tesla has previously also patented some banned F1 downforce tech featuring fan systems for vacuuming a vehicle’s underbody to the asphalt that we could see in action when the wraps are taken off.
Roadster reservations have already reopened globally ahead of the showcase, and a place in line costs $50,000.
Tesla is expected to livestream the Roadster unveil, whenever it happens.
