Tesla Robotaxis Get New Vehicle Icon on Mini-Map, Likely Also Coming to FSD

Tesla is continuing to trial Full Self-Driving changes in its commercial driverless fleet before rolling them out to customer vehicles. A small user interface change has appeared in active Robotaxi cars: the corner mini-map now shows a top-down render of the vehicle instead of a generic navigation pointer.

The update was noticed during a ride by Aryan Butala (@butala_aryan), who posted a photo of the display on X and wrote:

“Tesla @Robotaxi now appears to show the actual car on the corner minimap. I believe it used to show a red arrow like the customer version of FSD.”

The photo depicts the upper-right route-tracking card rendering a color-matched red Model Y avatar in place of the usual chevron/arrow icon. Here’s what the navigation mini-map in the top-right corner currently looks like on consumer FSD (and what it previously looked like in Robotaxis):

Fleet Testing Ahead of Consumer Releases

This mini-map tweak appears to preview a change that may reach customer vehicles in upcoming FSD updates.

Tesla has a pattern of using its commercial ride-hailing fleet as an early software testbed. Robotaxis are already running early FSD v15 builds, while consumer vehicles remain on version 14.3.8.

Primary development has also shifted toward dedicated autonomy platforms. Because the Cybercab includes more powerful FSD hardware than current consumer models, engineers are building and testing FSD models on these vehicles first, before distilling them to run on consumer HW4 vehicles.

Distinguishing Vehicle Models on the Screen

The timing of this UI change aligns with fleet preparations in Texas. Regulatory filings indicate Tesla has started registering Cybercabs for its Robotaxi fleet ahead of the official Cybercab launch event in Austin later this week.

With the Cybercab expected to offer its first public rides during or after Thursday’s launch event, precise vehicle graphics on the mini-map help make it clear whether a passenger is in one of the retrofitted Model Y Robotaxis currently in service or in a purpose-built Cybercab two-seater.

Interface updates and other improvements tested on Robotaxi displays frequently filter down to the consumer branch, so owners using Full Self-Driving (Supervised) should see this new mini-map graphic arrive in a future firmware update.
