Tesla Releases Tablet/Foldable App for iPad, iPhone Duo, Android

Tesla is rolling out a redesigned app for the iPad, iPhone Duo, and Android tablets and foldables, according to Tesla UI engineer Alex Guichet, who wrote that the app is finally available “on the big screens you bring around with you.”

Previously, the iPhone app could run on an iPad, but it was simply a scaled-up phone interface. The new release introduces a dedicated layout that takes advantage of the extra display area to surface more information at once.

A Layout Built for Bigger Screens

The interface places a primary menu on the left and a large vehicle visualization on the right. The menu mirrors the phone app’s sections, including Controls, Climate, Location, Self-Driving, Summon, Charging, Set Schedules, Security & Drivers, and Safety Score, and it surfaces quick status details such as cabin temperature and how much of your driving was on FSD.

With the added room, navigating into a section no longer hides the menu. For example, opening Charging keeps its submenu on the left while detailed content fills the remainder of the screen.

Guichet said Tesla’s designers “rethought many screens across the app to fill a bigger size,” and noted the team will continue iterating with improvements in future updates.

A Visualization That Looks Like Your Car’s Screen

The vehicle visualization is more than a scaled-up version of the phone app’s 3D model. It is more detailed and resembles the parked visualization inside your car, featuring an ambient background color that matches the vehicle’s paint and reflections beneath the car.

From the visualization, you can still open the frunk or trunk, lock or unlock the vehicle, and view charging status.

New Customize Controls and Show PSI Buttons

Below the visualization are quick controls such as Flash, Honk, Start, and Vent. Tesla added a Customize Controls button in this area to make it easier to choose which actions appear here.

A new Show psi button places tire pressures directly on the visualization so you don’t need to open the Controls menu to check them.

Energy and Charging Get the Big-Screen Treatment

Tesla Energy customers also receive the updated layout. The Home Status screen presents a 3D house with live readings for solar, Powerwall, home usage, the grid, and even your car charging in the garage. Related sections such as Energy, Impact, Virtual Power Plant, and Go Off-Grid appear alongside.

The Charge Stats screen leverages the wider canvas with a full-width map of visited Superchargers, along with totals for energy charged and money spent, money saved versus gas, and a monthly breakdown of where charging occurred. Charts and graphs benefit from the additional space, improving readability.

iPhone Duo Support

The new app also supports Apple’s foldable iPhone Duo, which starts shipping and arriving at Apple Stores this week. Screenshots shared by Max Weinbach show the big-screen layout on the iPhone Duo’s inner display, with charging details, Live Camera, and recent dashcam clips on the left and the new vehicle visualization on the right. Fold it closed, and the outer screen switches back to the familiar phone layout.

A Slow Rollout

The update is rolling out now and should reach the App Store and Google Play soon, but it will be gradual. Guichet said it “may take an extra week or two for everyone to get it” as Tesla ensures it renders correctly across displays.

As he put it, “our app is bigger than you imagine.” He also credited the designers and engineers who contributed, saying “it took a village to get this done.”

This follows recent Tesla app improvements, including passkey support for faster, more secure biometric logins last month. Tesla plans additional polish in upcoming releases, so expect continued refinements to the big-screen layout.
