Tesla Launches U.S. FSD Referrals: 1-Month Free or $99 Credit
Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) referral program is now live in the U.S. The company announced it on X, inviting owners to “Refer friends & family to gift them a month of FSD Supervised” and receive a free month themselves. The launch follows recent discovery of references to FSD referral rewards in the Tesla app code, and Tesla is discontinuing its U.S. vehicle referral program.
How FSD Referrals Work
According to Tesla’s support page, you must have an active FSD (Supervised) subscription or have purchased FSD outright to refer someone. Owners who received FSD through a one-year grant aren’t eligible. You’ll also need Tesla app version 4.62.0 or later.
When you share your referral link, the recipient gets a one-month FSD (Supervised) trial if eligible. If they subscribe during that trial, the referrer earns:
- One free month of FSD (Supervised) for subscribers.
- A $99 Tesla Credit toward eligible purchases for owners who bought FSD outright.
The $99 credit option exists because Tesla ended one-time FSD purchases earlier this year, so a complimentary subscription month doesn’t apply to owners who already have FSD for life.

You can earn rewards up to 12 times per calendar year, with the limit resetting on January 1. Rewards appear as “pending” in the app until the Grant Date, and each reward expires 12 months after the Grant Date. Unlike the former vehicle referral program that focused on first-time buyers, FSD referrals can also be used for existing Tesla owners.
Sending a Referral
In the Tesla app, tap the menu in the top-right corner and select Refer and Earn. Then choose Share Your Link and send it to a contact.

The referral section now features three tabs along the bottom for FSD referrals, solar referrals, and referral history.

Goodbye, Vehicle Referrals
Vehicle referrals are no longer available in the U.S. In its most recent form, the vehicle referral program awarded referrers up to $250 in Tesla Credits and gave buyers three free months of FSD (Supervised).

Adoption and Availability
During its Q3 2026 earnings call, Tesla said FSD reached a record 1.74 million subscribers, and 75% of new vehicle orders in North America include a paid subscription. The FSD referral program is U.S.-only for now, and FSD is approved in 18 countries.
