Tesla Ends Vinyl Wrap Service After Nearly Three Years

Tesla has quietly discontinued its first-party vehicle wrap service. The offerings for Model 3, Model Y, and Cybertruck have been removed from the Tesla Shop, and the former product pages now return a file not found error.

The company has not issued an announcement about the change or explained the decision.

PPF Wraps

Tesla launched its official wrap program in October 2023 with the Model 3 and Model Y. Instead of typical color vinyl, the company initially used urethane-based Paint Protection Film (PPF), which is thicker than standard vinyl and helps defend against chips and scratches, but also costs more.

The initial lineup included seven colors priced between $7,500 and $8,000, plus a clear PPF option for $5,000. Installation was initially limited to two California locations and 2023 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles.

Although the wraps were pricey, early impressions highlighted the material’s durability compared to conventional vinyl. The PPF used for Tesla’s wraps measured roughly 8 to 12 mils thick, versus around 3 to 4 mils for a typical vinyl vehicle wrap.

Tesla extended wraps to the Cybertruck shortly after deliveries began. Matte black and white wraps arrived in December 2023 for $6,500, while a transparent satin film cost $5,000.

The company continued to refine the program. Model 3 and Model Y PPF prices dropped to $5,700 to $6,000 in January, and Satin Abyss Blue was added to the color choices. Cybertruck later gained additional options, including Satin Rose Gold, Satin Abyss Blue, and Slip Grey.

Switch to Vinyl

The most significant shift came in late 2024, when Tesla reworked the service and transitioned from PPF to traditional vinyl wraps.

With that change, pricing fell to $4,000 for Model 3 and Model Y and $4,500 for Cybertruck. Tesla also broadened installation availability and began allowing vehicles that had already been delivered to receive a wrap.

Tesla Wraps Are Now Gone

The wrap products now appear to be discontinued, having been removed from the online Shop for the Model 3, Model Y, and Cybertruck. However, the support page remains available with an old FAQ.

Tesla continues to offer XPEL Paint Protection Film installed through certified third-party locations, with pricing ranging from $400 to $6,500 depending on which parts of the vehicle are covered.
