Tesla’s purpose-built autonomous Cybercab is now moving into high-volume production in Austin. Assembly lines that began earlier this spring are ramping, and the dedicated two-seat robotaxi is filling factory lots and staging areas as output increases ahead of commercial launch.
New drone video by Air~wave shows a record grouping in the outbound logistics lot at Gigafactory Texas. A count of the gold-accented vehicles arranged in rows indicates nearly 250 Cybercabs on-site. These completed units are likely awaiting final software checks or regulatory approval before entering active service zones.

Paving the Way for Commercial Cybercab Rides
The Cybercab fleet at Giga Texas continues to expand as on-road validation accelerates. Tesla recently started testing steering-wheel-less Cybercabs on public roads in Austin, a major milestone toward fully driverless operation without pedals or manual backup controls. Before serving paying customers, the Cybercab will first support internal operations, with fully autonomous Cybercab rides for employees planned around the Gigafactory Texas campus.

Once approved for commercial deployment, the custom two-seater will anchor Tesla’s Robotaxi service, taking over workload from the retrofitted Model Ys currently operating in Austin and other areas. Tesla is now offering Robotaxi rides in seven markets after expanding into Orlando and Tampa this week.
Purpose-Built Architecture and Hardware
The Cybercab was designed from scratch for maximum utility and transport efficiency. Tesla estimates the compact vehicle will deliver a record-breaking efficiency of 6.1 miles per kWh, significantly reducing operating costs compared to consumer passenger models.

The Cybercab is expected to replace most Model Ys on the Robotaxi network because it is far cheaper to build and operate. Larger vehicles like the Model Y will remain in smaller numbers to accommodate groups of more than two passengers or heavy luggage, while the low-cost two-seater will handle typical single- and dual-passenger trips. Under the Cybercab’s futuristic exterior is a next-generation Full Self-Driving (FSD) computer that’s more powerful than what Tesla’s consumer vehicles currently include. Tesla has started primarily developing self-driving software for the Cybercab, which is then optimized and distilled into the FSD builds that are released publicly to consumer vehicles. With hundreds of production Cybercabs already parked outside the factory, the autonomous future is rapidly assembling in Texas.
