Introducing a Tesla License Plate Generator With Designs for All 50 States

A new license plate visualization generator lets Tesla owners browse U.S. state plate designs, add custom text, and download an image ready for the vehicle’s visualization.

Find Your State’s Plate

The tool launches with designs for all 50 U.S. states. Users can browse the collection, search for a specific state, or sort plates by name, newest additions, or popularity. A favorites feature is included to keep track of preferred designs.

Choose a background that matches your real plate, or select another for fun. Each design can be downloaded blank or with custom text (best Tesla vanity plates), or you can use your actual license plate text.

Add Your Own Text

Use the Customize option to enter your plate number, your Tesla’s name, or another short message. The customization feature applies appropriate text separators for states that require them and uses fonts similar to the real plate.

Using your actual plate number can provide a handy reference when viewing the vehicle in the car. If you prefer a blank background, simply download the plate without adding text.

The generator formats and sizes the image to fit the vehicle visualization. After downloading, add it to your vehicle’s USB drive.

Bring It Into Your Tesla

Tesla introduced license plate customization on Cybertruck with the 2024 Holiday Update, then added it to all other models through the Paint Shop feature in the 2025 Holiday Update.

To use the image, place the PNG file inside a folder named LicensePlate at the top level of the vehicle’s USB drive. Reconnect the drive, then open Toybox, Paint Shop, and the license plate customization options to select the image as the background. Using a USB extension like this one can make removing and reconnecting the drive easier.

If the downloaded image already includes text, leave Tesla’s separate plate text field empty to avoid layering text twice.

More Countries to Come

The initial collection focuses on U.S. plates, with plans to add Canada and other countries over time.

If you notice an issue or want to request a missing design, feedback is welcomed. Explore the license plate generator and make your Tesla yours.
