Giga Shanghai Model 3/Y Add V2L, Zen Gray, 16" Screen

Gigafactory Shanghai has introduced a broad set of hardware and interior updates. Beginning with deliveries in the fourth quarter of 2026, new Model 3 and Model Y vehicles delivered in China, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, and other regions served by the factory will include several notable changes. Tesla continues to roll in updates as parts transition, helping align components across the lineup; many of these changes previously appeared on Shanghai-built Model Y and are now extending to Model 3.
Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) Capability
Bidirectional charging via Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability is now included on newly produced 2027 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles. V2L lets owners power everyday devices and appliances directly from the vehicle’s high-voltage battery using Tesla’s official Outlet Adapter at the charge port, enabling use cases like space heaters, camping stoves, power tools at remote sites, or essential home electronics during an outage.

The feature supplies power wherever the car is parked and is rolling out with new deliveries across Asia-Pacific and Oceania markets. Owners of existing builds cannot retrofit the feature because it relies on specific bidirectional power electronics integrated into the onboard charging assembly.
V2L was initially exclusive to Cybertruck. The three-row, six-seat Model Y L introduced it in China last summer, followed by Model Y Performance and, more recently, Model Y Premium. It now appears to be included across all Model 3 and Model Y trims built at Giga Shanghai, though it remains unclear whether any variants are excluded until fresh builds reach customers.
Black Headliner
An all-black headliner replaces the long-standing light grey material on both Model 3 and Model Y. Tesla began introducing the darker fabric on select Model Y trims earlier this year, and the change now extends across all Model 3 trims, giving the cabin a sportier, more premium look, especially alongside ambient accent lighting.

Zen Gray Interior
The traditional “Black and White” interior option is being retired in these regions and replaced with “Zen Gray.”
Zen Gray debuted on the three-row, six-seat Model Y L in China last year before expanding to standard Shanghai-built Model Y crossovers this spring. It is now also available on the Model 3 Premium (Long Range) and Performance variants. The bright, ultra-white interior is being phased out across Tesla’s consumer lineup, with the muted gray look expected to replace it globally over time.

16" Screen
The Model 3 center touchscreen increases from 15.4 inches to 16 inches. The new display was first spotted in Tesla’s website code for the Model 3 earlier this year alongside the all-black headliner. Beyond the slight size increase, it brings higher resolution and pixel density.

| Spec | Old Display | New Display |
|---|---|---|
| Size | 15.4” | 16” |
| Resolution | 1920×1200 (just over Full HD/1080P) | 2560×1440 (QHD/1440P) |
| Screen Ratio | 16:10 | 16:9 |
| Display Width | 13.06” | 13.95” |
| Display Height | 8.16” | 7.84” |
| Screen Area | 106.59 inches² | 109.39 inches² |
The 16-inch panel has already been available on the Model Y lineup since earlier this year, offering sharper maps and text that is easier to read at a glance.
Other Changes
The 19-inch Nova wheels offered on Model 3 Premium builds from Giga Shanghai now use a darker gray finish, replacing the previous silver-toned alloy look.
Tesla has also launched the base Model 3 in Australia and New Zealand. This entry-level single-motor trim provides a more affordable way into the lineup as these updates arrive.
As updated vehicles begin reaching customers from Gigafactory Shanghai, the rollout often foreshadows similar changes at other plants. Fremont, Giga Texas, and Giga Berlin are expected to integrate these updates over the coming months as existing inventory is depleted.
