After years of anticipation and missed targets, there is now a clearer indication of when the next-generation Tesla Roadster will be shown. During Tesla’s Q1 2026 Earnings Call this week, Elon Musk said the supercar could debut in about a month or so.

This updates comments he made just last month, when he suggested a late April reveal. On the Q4 2025 call, the internal target was April Fool's Day, 2026. That date passed without a debut, and the current timeline indicates Tesla is in the final stages of preparing what he has described as one of the most exciting product unveilings.

The Last Manually Driven Tesla

Musk outlined how the Roadster fits into Tesla’s future lineup as the company moves toward autonomy with the Cybercab and its Robotaxi network. He noted that mainstream models like the Model 3 and Model Y are expected to be driven by AI more often than by people.

According to Musk, the Roadster will likely be the only vehicle in Tesla’s long-term portfolio designed primarily for manual driving. While it may remain a niche product and not a major revenue driver, it is intended as a "halo" car to showcase the outer limits of electric performance. Tesla has already laid the groundwork by filing new trademarks for the Roadster name in February.

F1 Tech and Mind-Bending Speed

The company is still aiming for a sub-2-second 0-60 mph time, a benchmark that would make the Roadster among the quickest-accelerating production cars. To help achieve this, Tesla has patented advanced aerodynamic technology that was banned in Formula 1 because it made cars too fast.

Recent patents also point to interior elements such as a monolithic one-piece seat design. Musk cautioned on the earnings call that the demo requires substantial validation to ensure it is "spectacular" and that nothing goes wrong in a live setting, which explains the careful approach to setting the final date.

An Unforgettable Demo Awaits

The new Roadster has been "coming soon" for nearly a decade. Musk has said the presentation will be an “unforgettable” demo. If the "one month" guidance holds, the reveal would likely fall in late May or early June.
