Norway continues to set the pace for electric vehicle adoption, and during the first week of March, Tesla achieved a rare level of market dominance there.

According to data shared by Tesla sales watcher Roland Pircher (@piloly), Tesla sold more vehicles in Norway during that week than all other brands combined, capturing a 53.4% market share. It was Tesla27s strongest start to March in the country on record.

Norway March 2026 sales chart

A Strong Start for the European Region

While Tesla is known for its "end-of-quarter push," when deliveries typically spike late in the period, this year27s performance is outpacing prior cycles. Pircher noted that "it's better than usual in March," even after accounting for demand that shifted into late last year as some EV incentives were phased out. Year-to-date, Tesla holds a 22.4% market share in Norway, with roughly half of that coming from the first week of March. For the first quarter of 2026 so far, Tesla27s sales are up 56% compared to the same period a year earlier.

European sales growth chart

Momentum extends beyond Norway. February year-over-year figures show strong growth across Europe: Romania rose 243%, Finland 175%, and Portugal 105%, with Germany up 59% and France 55%.

Expanding the Lineup and Tech

Tesla27s recent gains in Europe are helped by a broader lineup. Earlier this quarter, the company launched the Model Y Standard Long Range in the region. This variant is a "sweet spot" for many buyers, combining a lighter, more affordable rear-wheel-drive setup with the larger battery usually found in higher-priced trims, enabling a 657 km WLTP (~400mi EPA) range.

The company also reintroduced the seven-seat configuration for the Model Y Premium Long Range in Europe. While the fabled six-seater Model Y L has received EU type approval and remains highly anticipated, it still has not launched in the region. Even so, the current updates are keeping order volumes elevated.

Regulatory Hurdles and Future Growth

Tesla is also investing in software progress. The company is actively trying to secure approval for Full Self-Driving (FSD) in Europe and has begun a public ride-along program to demonstrate the system27s capabilities and build local interest.

As market share continues to climb this quarter2c the brand remains a leading choice for Europeans moving to electric vehicles, especially in Norway. If March27s early pace holds, Tesla is positioned for a record year in the region.
