Tesla has reached a major milestone: the company’s Fremont Factory produced the 10 millionth Tesla vehicle globally this week, capping nearly two decades of manufacturing growth.

In a post on X, the official @tesla account marked the occasion, sharing:

“Produced our 10 millionth Tesla globally at Fremont Factory this week! Only 6 years ago, Fremont Factory made our 1 millionth vehicle.”

The milestone car was a Diamond Black Model Y built in Fremont. The official Tesla Manufacturing account, @gigafactories, also celebrated the feat, posting: “10 million vehicles produced globally. Congrats to all Tesla teams!” and sharing a video reflecting on two decades of manufacturing with messages to customers from factory workers around the world.

It’s worth noting that Tesla reached 10 million electric drive units produced back in 2024, but drive units don’t equal total vehicle output, as dual-motor configurations use two drive units per car. Hitting 10 million complete vehicles on the road represents a different level of scale.

Looking Back at the Milestone Timeline

The production timeline highlights how quickly manufacturing accelerated. It took roughly 12 years to build the first million vehicles, a mark achieved at Fremont in March 2020. From there, the pace increased significantly as new assembly lines came online, with another nine million vehicles produced in just over six years. After hitting two million vehicles in late 2021, output accelerated as new facilities ramped up. Over the last few years, the baseline growth trend stabilized to roughly one million vehicles produced every seven months.

The bulk of Tesla’s global production is the best-selling Model Y, which continues topping sales charts not just in EV-forward countries but globally. The manufacturing mix could shift once Tesla debuts its high-volume fully autonomous Cybercab robotaxi, which began mass production at Giga Texas back in April.

Four Factories Driving Global Scale

The 10 million–vehicle milestone was achieved with just four vehicle assembly plants: Fremont in California, Giga Shanghai, Giga Texas, and Giga Berlin.

Each facility contributes to sustaining this pace. For example, Giga Berlin celebrated building its 1 millionth drive unit earlier this spring as European operations expanded. The company has also announced two 20% production ramps at the German hub so far this year.

From a single converted assembly plant in California to four large Gigafactories turning out about a million cars every seven months, building 10 million EVs underscores how quickly battery-electric transportation—and Tesla’s output—has scaled.
