Tesla Issues Service Bulletins for Model Y Suspension Creaks

Tesla has issued two service bulletins to address customer reports of suspension creaking on the refreshed Model Y.
On 2026+ Model Y vehicles, owners have encountered ongoing creaking, rattling, or knocking noises during low-speed driving and over uneven surfaces.
Previously, navigating the problem through official channels was difficult. Service centers often classified the sound as non-safety-related and “within spec,” and declined repairs.
This changed with the release of two technical service bulletins, SB-26-31-003 and SB-25-31-005, on May 8, 2026.
The Mechanical Symptoms
The recurring front-end noise reported across Premium RWD, Premium AWD, and Performance variants of the refreshed Model Y was initially challenging for local service teams to isolate because the sounds shared overlapping acoustic characteristics.
Since suspension noises can come from numerous articulating components under load, early diagnostic efforts often relied on temporary lubrication that did not resolve the underlying issue.
The rattling or knocking experienced over bumps or rough roads is linked to the front upper control arm (FUCA) mounts and the internal valving or structural seating of the front damper assemblies.
Multi-Tier Remedy
According to SB-25-31-005, technicians are to inspect affected vehicles and replace the front upper control arm mounts with updated parts. For Premium and Performance configurations, the procedure also calls for replacing both the left- and right-hand front damper assemblies with updated components designed for the refreshed platform’s weight distribution and dampening coefficients.
Both bulletins also require a structural change: completely removing the wiper bracket pencil braces. These braces were introducing unexpected harmonics or transmitting suspension energy into the firewall, amplifying what would otherwise be a minor mechanical click into audible cabin noise.
For vehicles where the control arm mounts and pencil braces have already been addressed, SB-26-31-003 recommends updating the front dampers.
If the full procedure is performed, it is expected to take approximately 4 hours, including pre- and post-repair test drives to confirm the fix.
Service Bulletin
The bulletins enable immediate recognition and resolution at service centers: staff can identify the issue, verify the cause, and carry out the repair.
Because both documents are categorized as Campaign Bulletins, the diagnostic steps and part replacements are fully covered under Teslas New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
Owners who previously encountered pushback can now book service appointments to have the problem addressed. The bulletins specify the components to change and the applicable vehicles, allowing Service Centers to proactively order parts after a remote diagnosis for quicker turnaround.
