The wait is over for Rivian fans: the company has confirmed that June 9th is when the much-anticipated R2 begins arriving in customers’ driveways. The timing was communicated via email to reservation holders, followed by a post on X and a Rivian Story with additional details.
Tesla Model Y Competitor
Although the Rivian R2 isn’t positioned as a direct Tesla Model Y rival, it effectively competes with Tesla’s best-selling vehicle because both are EVs with similar prices and ranges, and both companies place a strong emphasis on software.
Rivian recently launched its AI assistant. The company also has a slate of upcoming software features, including group texting support, a curated App Store, and more.
The June 9th Rollout
Rather than a slow, staggered ramp, Rivian is targeting three milestones for June 9:
- Early reservation holders will receive emails asking them to confirm their orders, which should have been finalized via the online configurator.
- Rivian Spaces across the United States will open for demo drives, giving prospective buyers the chance to experience the R2 firsthand.
- The first production R2 vehicles will be delivered to customers.
Reservation owners do not need to confirm immediately, but the pricing you initially configured or Launch Edition trim availability (differences between Standard and Premium trims) may change if you wait. Rivian has also stated that the Launch Edition delivery window is now 2 to 6 weeks for customers who confirm their orders.
June 9 is the big day. 🙌 R2 officially launches!

How Order Invitations Will Work
Invitations will be sent on a rolling basis starting June 9th, going out in batches. Reservation timestamps and delivery locations are primary factors, with areas near Rivian Service Centers receiving invites sooner than locations farther away.
Additionally, current and previous R1 owners, as well as those with expiring R1 leases, will receive priority. The first wave of deliveries will focus on the Launch Edition, which starts at $57,990 and comes with the dual-motor Performance trim.
