Tesla FSD 14.3.9 Coming Soon; Will Include New 'Automatic Collision Ev

Tesla plans to start deploying FSD Supervised v14.3.9 shortly, introducing Automatic Collision Evasion. This active safety capability can step in during manual driving when a crash appears imminent. If the vehicle determines that Automatic Emergency Braking may not prevent an oncoming collision, FSD can assume control of steering, braking, and acceleration to carry out an evasive maneuver. The system may also intervene if it detects severe driver inattention or believes FSD was disengaged unintentionally.

Employees are already evaluating FSD v14.3.9 internally, with early access testers expected to receive it next, potentially as soon as this weekend.

FSD v14.3.9 corresponds to software update 2027.5 and follows FSD v14.3.8 in North America. Automatic Collision Evasion is the primary addition, and the release could also include the upcoming pot hole avoidance feature.

Automatic Collision Evasion

Automatic Collision Evasion can activate in two primary situations when FSD is off. One case is an imminent frontal collision where braking alone is unlikely to prevent impact. If specific conditions are met—for example, the car is traveling on a divided road and under 85 mph—the system can take over braking, acceleration, and steering.

During an evasive action, FSD may steer into an adjacent lane or onto the shoulder while modulating braking or acceleration as needed.

Driver inputs behave differently during this intervention. The accelerator has no effect while FSD is in control. Pressing the brake increases deceleration but does not cancel FSD or end the maneuver. The only way to abort the action is to apply a strong counterforce on the steering wheel; doing so returns control to the driver.

FSD has previously been observed steering away from potential highway collisions when already active. Automatic Collision Evasion brings similar behavior to emergencies that occur during manual driving.

Tesla cautions that this is a last-resort safety function and does not replace an attentive driver.
