Tesla opened its Hollywood diner last summer, and the building is as "tough as nails" as the trucks outside. The company has now confirmed a long-rumored detail about the metallic facade: the entire two-story structure is clad in recycled stainless steel sourced from Cybertruck production. Tesla’s North America account recently shared on X that the diner was built using recycled stainless steel from Cybertruck production.
The Tesla Diner: A Retro-Futuristic Landmark
Located at 7001 Santa Monica Blvd in Los Angeles, the site operates 24/7 as a "retro-futuristic" venue that blends 1950s nostalgia with high-tech utility. It includes a Supercharger station with 80 V4 stalls, making it one of the largest urban charging locations.
For entertainment, the diner also functions as a drive-in: two 66-foot LED screens face the parking area. Visitors can watch from the rooftop "Skypad" patio or from their cars, with audio syncing to a Tesla's sound system while charging.
Built With Cybertruck Steel
As construction neared completion, a stainless steel skirt was visible, prompting speculation that it matched the Cybertruck’s exoskeleton material—now confirmed.
Tesla has long emphasized sustainability through recycled materials, including recycled aluminum used in most of its vehicles. Using the Cybertruck’s "Hard Freaking Stainless" (HFS) alloy for the diner’s exterior siding helps close the loop on production scrap.
The recently launched Dual Motor AWD Cybertruck, with a sub-$60,000 price point, has increased interest, but sales in Tesla’s "Other Vehicles" category—which includes the Cybertruck—were down 48% in 2025. With production lines active and some units sitting, the company likely had ample high-grade steel available for its flagship restaurant.
Global Expansion on the Horizon?
The Hollywood location has been a major draw, to the point that the company trimmed down the menu to keep up with demand.
Elon Musk and Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen have suggested the Tesla Diner could expand internationally. A potential next site is Starbase, Texas, home to SpaceX. Musk has said that if the "retro-futuristic" concept works in L.A., the goal is to create "islands of good food and entertainment" in major cities and along long-distance Supercharger routes around the world.
Whether visitors come for movies, milkshakes, or a quick charge, the diner bundles charging, dining, and entertainment. The stainless steel siding underscores a focus on durability.
