Tesla Adds Model Y Camera Washers to Parts Catalog

Unreleased hardware components for Tesla’s refreshed Model Y briefly surfaced in official service databases this week. New camera cleaning hardware appeared in Tesla’s official parts catalog, hinting at potential fleet upgrades.

The findings were posted on X on Friday after they were shared by @Scotty4Scott, who spotted the entries live in the system.

Project Halo Components Leak Online

The new entries appeared specifically within Tesla’s Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) for the redesigned (Juniper refresh) Model Y. The catalog is used by Tesla-operated service centers, approved collision centers, and independent repair shops to order replacement hardware for Tesla vehicles.

Listed under a dedicated “HALO” category, the catalog added entries for a cleaning system containing specialized wipers and a washer pump for the external cameras, alongside one for “liftgate components, latches, and lights.”

The “Halo” name ties directly to “Project Halo,” Tesla's internal efforts to retrofit consumer Model Y vehicles to operate on the Robotaxi network. The upgrades include a dedicated washer mechanism for the rear camera and a box of communications hardware attached to the rear window. The “liftgate components” listed in the EPC likely include internal wiring routes and mounting points to integrate a rear camera washer into the car’s primary systems.

Shortly after the findings were posted online, Tesla quietly pulled the Halo category and its associated parts from its Canadian EPC.

Robotaxi Expansion or Consumer Refresh?

Tesla’s redesigned Model Y features an active washer for the front bumper camera, and some recent models even have washers for the side cameras. However, a dedicated rear camera washer is a clear sign of a Model Y prepped for autonomous ride-hailing on Tesla’s Robotaxi network. Tesla currently has four camera washers on Model Y robotaxis, covering the front bumper camera, rear camera, and B-pillar and repeater lenses. Meanwhile, the upcoming Cybercab robotaxi goes a step further with individual water jets for every external camera.

Because the EPC is primarily structured for consumer fleet maintenance, listing these components in Canada sparks several possibilities. It could mean Tesla plans to introduce camera washers as a standard feature and/or optional upgrade on the consumer Model Y with an upcoming mid-cycle update. Alternatively, it might signal that Tesla is preparing to launch Robotaxi testing or operations in Canadian markets. Although there have been some indications of the Robotaxi service going international, Tesla is yet to share any concrete plans. While less likely, it could also have simply been a cataloging error on Tesla’s part. Either way, seeing cleaning hardware typically seen on Tesla’s autonomous fleet land in an official parts database for consumer vehicles shows how close Robotaxi tech is getting to everyday production vehicles.
