Tesla has adjusted incentives for advocates in Europe, doubling referral rewards across the region. The change applies to the Model 3 and Model Y, which are central to the company’s high-volume strategy there.
As highlighted by X user @EFIEBER_ANDRE, the reward in Germany has increased from 1,000 kilometers of free Supercharging to 2,000. This uplift is being applied throughout Europe, giving both the buyer and the referrer 2,000 km (roughly 1,300 miles) of free Supercharging.
A Tale of Two Regions
Tesla’s referral structure differs by market. In the U.S., the company has been phasing out direct cash discounts in favor of added-value perks. Buyers in North America often receive three free months of Full Self-Driving (FSD), while referrers earn Tesla Credits that can be used for Supercharging or applied toward vehicle and solar purchases.
In Europe, the program emphasizes the "free fuel" benefit of Supercharging kilometers. While the U.S. program was recently tightened to improve margins — reducing loyalty discounts and Cybertruck perks — the broader European offer points to an effort to reinforce market share. This push comes as Tesla aims to increase production by 20% at Gigafactory Berlin and hire an additional 1,000 workers to meet rising demand.
Is FSD the Next Reward for Europe?
Tesla’s referral initiatives have been "on-again, off-again" as the company iterates on what drives volume. The Netherlands recently became the first EU country to approve FSD (Supervised) for public use. Company leadership has hinted that Dutch approval could trigger a domino effect across the continent.
Once FSD reaches broader availability and regional approval in Europe, Tesla could replace the Supercharging perk with free months of FSD, mirroring the U.S. approach. That would lower the overhead cost of referrals and also serve as a marketing tool to encourage use of its advanced driver-assistance software.
The Constant Evolution of Perks
Over time, Tesla’s referral program has awarded everything from free Roadsters to $500 credits. The strategy changes frequently; the company has paused the program before and later reintroduced it with richer incentives. The current doubling of kilometers is likely another temporary lever while Tesla measures its impact.
If you’re considering a Model 3 or Model Y in Europe, securing a referral link now may be advantageous, since high-value rewards in the U.S. have sometimes disappeared as quickly as they arrived.
