FSD v14 lite for HW3 is set to expand beyond North America

After confirming at the Q1 2026 earnings call that FSD v14 lite is still targeted for a summer rollout, Tesla has addressed availability for HW3 owners outside North America.

Tesla confirmed plans to bring FSD v14 lite to international markets. Some of these regions have already approved FSD on HW4 vehicles, while HW3 vehicles are still awaiting approval.

This indicates Tesla will seek FSD approval for HW3 in those markets once the additional improvements from FSD v14 lite are in place.

Reassuring the Global Fleet

In North America, HW3 lags behind HW4 in FSD capabilities, though HW3 owners still have access to the driver-assist system. In countries such as South Korea, China, Australia, and New Zealand, HW4 vehicles received approval with no mention of HW3.

The company has long planned FSD v14 lite, and it now confirms the software will also be available internationally.

This development points to a likely step up in capability for all HW3 owners.

Tesla has stated that unsupervised FSD will not be available on HW3 without an upgrade, but it outlined improvements included in FSD v14 lite. It is expected to bring all the capabilities of FSD v14 to HW3, including start FSD from park, auto parking at destination and more. While capabilities will align between HW3 and HW4, outcomes may differ; FSD v14 lite is a distilled model, and HW3 cameras offer lower resolution.

Global Rollout

In North America, FSD v14 lite is slated for late June. Tesla added that it cannot provide definitive dates yet for international expansion. The global timeline depends on three factors: technical verification, regional adaptation, and relevant regulatory approvals.

Regional adaptation requires training in each market to address local conditions. The system must learn regional road markings, unique traffic signs, and localized driving behaviors. Because cameras differ between HW3 and HW4, models will need to be retrained for HW3.

Regulatory approvals can be challenging, but they will likely be simpler in markets that already approved FSD for HW4. Regulators will need to be satisfied that FSD on HW3 is on par with HW4.

Tesla said it will provide rollout updates on a rolling basis as regions clear these steps. International HW3 owners should expect a longer wait.
