Tesla Update 2026.20 — The Undocumented Changes

Every Tesla update includes smaller, undocumented changes. While the 2026.20 update wasn’t the Summer Update in terms of features, it did include up to 24 hours of Dashcam footage if you have a large enough USB drive. It also added Dashcam encryption for privacy, improved parental controls to lock out certain apps, and introduced Hey, Grok in additional regions.

Here is the list of undocumented features that didn’t make it into Tesla’s official release notes.

License Plate Frame

With Tesla’s recent addition of license plate customization, there is now a shortcut for it under Controls > Software, similar to the Colorizer/Wrap feature. In this update, the icon was adjusted by adding a license plate frame around the plate image. Tapping the icon still opens the license plate customization feature.

Decrypt Dashcam Video

In update 2026.20, Tesla started encrypting Dashcam footage. This coincided with the expansion of recent video footage from 1 hour to up to 24 hours under certain requirements.

Given that a removed USB drive could contain up to 24 hours of driving that might reveal a workplace, home, and other important locations, encryption serves as an important privacy measure.

Tesla also added a button to the Dashcam Viewer to decrypt a specific clip, making it easier to view the footage when the USB drive is mounted to a computer.

Tesla also introduced a tool that lets you decrypt any videos on your computer, as long as you log in to your Tesla account to prove that you own the video footage.

Bus Lanes

Tesla’s navigation now supports bus lanes, helping drivers be more aware of which lanes they can use.

This is especially important for FSD, allowing the vehicle to know which lanes are appropriate without relying solely on reading signs that could be missed.

Service Mode Improvements

A new Forward Camera View Cleaning panel is available under Driver Assist to support cleaning the surface of the windshield in front of the cameras. The panel displays a live camera stream with the ability to zoom into the camera stream.

The Drive Unit panel now supports interactive signal chart popups. Signals with a chart icon can be tapped to open a draggable, resizable popup window for real-time signal monitoring.
