Tesla began pushing FSD v14.3.3 to early-access testers this week. The release arrives alongside the 2026 Spring Update and introduces new features.
It also includes several quality-of-life additions and some undocumented changes. With FSD v14.3.3, Tesla has again relaxed driver-monitoring requirements, giving drivers more time before the system prompts them to look ahead.
Elon Musk confirmed that the driver monitor has been eased again.
The Evolution of Driver Monitoring
Previously, drivers had to periodically apply slight turning torque to the steering wheel to demonstrate attentiveness. In FSD v12, this was fully replaced by cabin camera vision monitoring, significantly improving the experience.
As Tesla’s confidence grows in FSD’s safety margin relative to human drivers, the company has gradually reduced vision-based attention checks.
In later versions of v13 and the current widespread v14.2.2, monitoring is already much more lenient, allowing drivers to look away or interact with the screen briefly, typically for less than 20-30 seconds.
Reduced Monitoring
With v14.3.3, the monitoring is loosened further. Early access testers report intervals of up to a minute before being required to face forward and pay attention when looking away from the road.

The change makes FSD feel more like a supervised system where you oversee the broader driving situation rather than micromanaging every minor maneuver.
However, monitoring does not relax in every scenario. The vehicle evaluates environmental difficulty and its own confidence and applies stricter supervision when confidence is lower.
The Mad Max Exception
There are exceptions for the fastest, most aggressive profile. When Mad Max is enabled, an on-screen prompt states “Increased attention required, Mad Max profile selected”.

This mirrors a previous prompt that appeared in poor weather, along with reduced speeds in wet conditions.
The Path to Unsupervised
By enforcing additional attention in Mad Max mode or during severe weather, FSD demonstrates awareness of its operational limits. As the neural network becomes more capable in complex environments, reducing the need for constant human micromanagement serves as a psychological and regulatory step toward unsupervised, fully autonomous operation.
