Tesla Increases Model Y Prices for the First Time in 2 Years

Tesla Model Y Premium

Tesla has adjusted Model Y pricing in North America following an update to its online configurator, raising several configurations of its best-selling vehicle. This is the first time in two years that U.S. buyers will see higher entry costs for the electric crossover.

As noted by Tesla watcher Sawyer Merritt (@SawyerMerritt), the changes affect mid-tier and top-end trims, while the entry-level options remain unchanged. The updated prices are visible on Tesla’s U.S. order configurator.

Breakdown of the New Model Y Pricing

The increases focus on the Premium and Performance versions. The Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive (Model Y Standard) stays at $39,990, and the base All-Wheel Drive remains $41,990.

Trim Previous Price New Price Change ($) Change (%)
Model Y RWD $39,990 $39,990 No change No change
Model Y AWD $41,990 $41,990 No change No change
Model Y Premium RWD $44,990 $45,990 +$1,000 +2.22%
Model Y Premium AWD $48,990 $49,990 +$1,000 +2.04%
Model Y Performance $57,490 $57,990 +$500 +0.87%

The shift aligns with other recent moves by the company, including increased U.S. lease pricing for the Cybertruck Premium AWD. Taken together, these actions indicate a move away from aggressive cuts toward firmer margins as demand steadies.

Fresh Visual Customization and Safety Dominance

Alongside the pricing changes, Tesla introduced new paint options for affected Model Y variants. Model Y Premium trims can now be ordered in Marine Blue, while Model Y Performance adds an exclusive Frost Blue.

Beyond design updates, the Model Y was recently recognized as the first vehicle model to pass the NHTSA’s brand-new advanced driver assistance system tests.

Making Room for the Model Y L?

The modest price changes may also be creating space for a new addition. The three-row, six-seat Model Y L has been spotted testing on public roads in the U.S., and a complete unit was seen under covers at Gigafactory Texas.

By lifting the floor price of current Premium models to nearly $46,000, the lineup could accommodate the longer-wheelbase Model Y L at around $50,000. With inventory shifting quickly, this uptick hints at a more active second half of the year, and ordering sooner may help lock in current pricing.
