After installing Full Self-Driving (Supervised) version 14.3.9, many Tesla owners are seeing recurring prompts that claim the front-facing FSD cameras are dirty and advise scheduling service, even when the windshield and camera area are clean.

Hardware is not at fault. On X, @CARN0N shared confirmation from a Tesla Support representative that a known software bug in FSD v14.3.9 is generating these false alerts.

The Bug Behind the Warnings

The problem emerged immediately after Tesla rolled out FSD v14.3.9 earlier this month. Alongside Tesla’s new Automatic Collision Evasion feature, the update appears to include an overactive vision encoder bug.

The software is oversensitive to camera visibility, sometimes interpreting mild sun glare or normal optical conditions as a dirty lens. In the vehicle, this triggers an on-screen notice requesting heightened attention while FSD is engaged and suggesting camera service.

Opening the Camera Visibility diagnostic view presents a specific notice tied to the forward-facing windshield camera:

“Poor camera visibility detected. Interior windshield residue cleaning is required.”

In typical cases, seeing that message would mean booking service or cleaning the camera yourself (which isn’t as easy as Tesla would like it to be).

What You Should Do If You See the Alert

Because the alert is software-driven, there is no need to remove the windshield camera housing or schedule service. Tesla Service has already begun canceling cleaning appointments for affected owners, noting that the alert is linked to a known bug.

If you are encountering these warnings on FSD v14.3.9, the recommended approach is to wait for an update that corrects the underlying issue.

Owners who paid for an interior windshield cleaning before the bug was widely recognized should contact Tesla Support. Service advisors will likely provide credits or refunds once internal guidance is finalized.

Tesla has started rolling out FSD v14.3.10, but it is not yet clear whether it addresses the problem, as its release notes match those of FSD v14.3.9. So far, reports of false camera cleaning alerts are limited to v14.3.9. More will be known as FSD v14.3.10 reaches affected vehicles.
