Tesla has reset the timetable for the Model S and Model X Signature Edition delivery event, following a weekend notice to invitees that the celebration was being postponed. The company has now confirmed a new date for the gathering.
A follow-up email to guests states the event is scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Teslas factory in Fremont, California. Attendees are being instructed to re-register to obtain a new QR code ticket for entry.

Why the Reschedule?
Tesla has not provided an official explanation for moving the date from May 12 to May 20, but it is not due to production problems. Over the weekend, the company confirmed it had already completed the entire production run of 350 Signature Edition vehicles250 Model S and 100 Model X.

One community theory is that the original date conflicted with Elon Musks diplomatic travel. Musk was invited to join U.S. President Donald Trump on a trip to Beijing to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping. That mission is expected to run from May 13 to May 15, making a May 20 event feasible for the CEO to personally oversee delivery of the last-ever Model S and Model X units.
A Six-Figure Send-Off
The Signature Edition vehicles are distinct from standard Plaid models. Priced at $159,420, the Model S and Model X SE represent the top tier of the companys luxury manufacturing. Each car features a deep Garnet Red finish with matching door handles, carbon-ceramic brakes with gold calipers, and an upgraded interior with Alcantara seats, gold piping, custom puddle lights, and unique edition numbering on the dash.

Since the Model S entered production in 2012, these flagships have helped establish electric vehicles in the mainstream and defined expectations for electric luxury. With standard orders officially closed and remaining inventory selling out rapidly across the country, the final 350 units are poised to be collectors items. Buyers are required to sign a one-year no-resale agreement.
The Future is Robotic
After the May 20 event and the delivery of these final cars, Tesla plans to repurpose the Fremont factory space previously used for the S and X lines to produce the Optimus humanoid robot.
The event will close the book on production of the Model S and Model X as the company focuses its Fremont footprint on robotics.
