Tesla FSD v14.3 Lite for HW3: Parking, SLOTH Mode and What's Missing
HW3 Teslas finally get parking, reversing and a new SLOTH speed profile. Here is what FSD v14.3 Lite adds, who gets it, and what is still missing.
Quick answer
FSD (Supervised) v14.3 Lite is the newest Full Self-Driving build for Tesla's older HW3 computer. Tesla says it "distilled the intelligence from HW4 V14 into HW3," and on HW3 Model 3 and Model Y it adds parking, unparking and reversing, Arrival Options, Start Self-Driving from Park and Speed Profiles, including a new SLOTH profile that is slower than CHILL.
It is rolling out in update 2026.38.5, and 2026.38.5.1 brings it to Intel-based HW3 Model S and Model X for the first time. Those cars get Speed Profiles but not yet Arrival Options, Start from Park or reversing. HW3 still will not get unsupervised FSD.
For HW3 owners, this has been a long wait. HW3 went more than a year on FSD v12 before v14 Lite arrived this summer. This week, v14.3 Lite is finally reaching a wide group of older cars.
The first v14.3 Lite build showed up with update 2026.33.5 on October 7. Update 2026.38.5 followed on October 10 with full release notes, and 2026.38.5.1 started reaching legacy Model S and Model X on October 14. Here is what changes, what is still missing, and how to check whether your car is next.
What owners are saying
Owners on X
Early drivers say it is a big step up from v12. The two things they notice first are better speed control and fewer steering-wheel nags.
Owner on X
One owner installed it on two older Model X cars, including a 2017, and posted a list of what came with it and what did not. Speed Profiles and the smoother driving arrived, while Arrival Options, reversing and starting from Park are still missing on those cars.
Early testers
Testers report less steering wobble and steady behavior in heavy rain. Their quirks list includes brief jitters over shadows, blinking yellow lights treated like red ones, sun-glare alerts and no garage parking.
What is FSD v14.3 Lite?
It is a smaller version of Tesla's FSD v14 built to run on the HW3 computer, which is less powerful than the newer HW4 (AI4) computer. Tesla trains the big model on HW4 and then compresses it for HW3, which is why it is called "Lite."
According to the 2026.38.5 release notes, v14.3 Lite brings reinforcement learning and offline model improvements from HW4 to HW3. Tesla lists better responsiveness at merges, with pedestrians, at traffic lights and with cut-ins. It also lists fewer false slowdowns, smoother steering and steadier lane centering.
What's new in FSD v14.3 Lite for HW3?
For HW3 Model 3 and Model Y, the release notes list these features:
- Parking, unparking and reversing. FSD can now pull into and out of spots and back up on its own.
- Arrival Options. Choose how you want to be dropped off: parking lot, street, driveway or pull over. Your choice is saved for each destination.
- Start Self-Driving from Park. A start button appears once you are seated and buckled and the cabin camera is unobstructed.
- Speed Profiles, always available. Your speed is set from your profile, the speed limit and the traffic around you.
- New SLOTH profile. It is slower and more conservative than CHILL.
- On-screen controls. You can change Speed Profile and Arrival Options right from the Self-Driving visualization.
Not a Tesla App also spotted an FSD streak counter that tracks how far you drive without an intervention, even though it is not in the release notes.
What changed with the right scroll wheel?
This is the change most likely to surprise you on your first drive. On v14.3 Lite, the right scroll wheel now changes the Speed Profile instead of the precise max speed offset. Tesla also says a more assertive profile now raises the maximum speed more than before.
If you liked fine-tuning your offset a few mph at a time, expect to think in profiles instead: SLOTH, CHILL and the faster options above them.
How does Start from Park work, and what is Brake Confirm?
When the driver requirements are met, a Start Self-Driving button appears while the car is in Park. You can also press the right scroll wheel to start.
If you want an extra step before the car moves, turn on Brake Confirm under Self-Driving > Brake Confirm. With it on, you press and release the brake before FSD activates. It is a good idea for the first few weeks, especially in tight driveways or garages.
Which Teslas get FSD v14.3 Lite?
Cars with the HW3 computer and an active FSD (Supervised) purchase or subscription. The rollout has come in waves:
- October 7: update 2026.33.5 brings the first v14.3 Lite build, first spotted on a 2020 Model 3.
- October 10: update 2026.38.5 starts rolling out with the full v14.3 Lite release notes for HW3 Model 3.
- October 13–14: update 2026.38.5.1 brings v14.3 Lite to Intel-based HW3 Model S and Model X for the first time, according to Not a Tesla App.
HW3 Model S and Model X get a reduced feature set for now. Here is how the two groups compare today:
| Feature | HW3 Model 3 / Model Y | Intel HW3 Model S / Model X |
|---|---|---|
| Smoother driving from HW4 V14 | HW3 Model 3 / Model Y: Yes | Intel HW3 Model S / Model X: Yes |
| Speed Profiles, including SLOTH | HW3 Model 3 / Model Y: Yes | Intel HW3 Model S / Model X: Yes |
| Arrival Options | HW3 Model 3 / Model Y: Yes | Intel HW3 Model S / Model X: Not yet |
| Start from Park | HW3 Model 3 / Model Y: Yes | Intel HW3 Model S / Model X: Not yet |
| Reversing | HW3 Model 3 / Model Y: Yes | Intel HW3 Model S / Model X: Not yet |
| Automatic Collision Evasion | HW3 Model 3 / Model Y: No, HW4 only | Intel HW3 Model S / Model X: No, HW4 only |
Not a Tesla App also notes that Halloween Mode, which ships in the same update, does not support Intel vehicles.
How do I know if my Tesla has HW3?
Go to Controls > Software > Additional Vehicle Information and look at the Autopilot computer line. If it says HW3, you are on the v14.3 Lite track. If it says HW4 or AI4, you get the full v14.3 builds instead.
How do I get the update faster?
The rollout is staged, so many owners will get it over the coming days rather than all at once. A few habits help:
- Keep the car on Wi-Fi, ideally parked overnight.
- Set software updates to Advanced instead of Standard in the car's software settings for an earlier spot in line.
- Check the Tesla app and the car's Software screen for a pending update.
Will HW3 ever get unsupervised FSD?
No, based on what Tesla has said. Tesla has stated that HW3 will not support unsupervised FSD or FSD v15, and Not a Tesla App reports that v14 Lite is expected to be the last major FSD branch for HW3. Future point releases could still add missing features, such as parking on Model S and Model X.
For owners who bought FSD, Tesla has promised a hardware upgrade with a more powerful AI computer. Earlier this year Tesla said the upgrade would also cover cameras, and that owners could instead trade in their car for an extra discount on a new one. Tesla has not announced dates or pricing for the upgrade.
What should HW3 owners do now?
- Confirm your computer under Controls > Software > Additional Vehicle Information.
- Read the release notes on screen after the update installs.
- Try SLOTH or CHILL first, then move up once you trust the new behavior.
- Turn on Brake Confirm if you plan to use Start from Park.
- Stay supervising. Early testers still report odd moments at blinking yellow lights and in low sun.
A smoother FSD build makes longer drives in an older Tesla more tempting. If you are planning more road trips this fall, having more places to charge along the way helps.
