Tesla Code Reveals Model 3 Upgrades Coming: Black Headliner & 16-Inch QHD Display

The dark headliner in the Model Y is coming to the Model 3.

Code found on Tesla’s website indicates that the 2026 Model 3 is set to receive interior updates to align with the Model Y. Based on backend configurator assets and Electronic Parts Catalogue data uncovered by a user on X, the changes include a black Alcantara-style headliner and a new, higher-resolution center display.

Although not yet publicly listed, these updates have been identified within EU and Asia-Pacific configurator assets.

Return of the Black Headliner

Customers have sought a move away from the standard light-grey fabric headliner in the Model 3 toward a darker, more premium material. Newly found assets show that request is being addressed.

Visuals associated with interior code IN3PB (Interior 3 Premium Black) have appeared. While this code has historically denoted the standard black interior on Premium models, the 2026 assets now map it directly to a dark, Alcantara-style headliner, mirroring the recent change on the Model Y.

QHD Display

The Electronic Parts Catalogue now lists the Display_16_QHD component—previously limited to the Model Y—as available on the 2026 Model 3.

The current Model 3 uses a 15.4-inch touchscreen. The update to a 16-inch display is paired with a jump in resolution and pixel density, moving from 1920x1200 (HD) to 2560x1440 (QHD).

The new screen is wider and notably sharper. Due to the shift from 16:10 to 16:9, the physical height is slightly reduced, improving visibility above the dash while maintaining display resolution.

Global Rollout?

Multiple 2026 builds are indicated as locked in and production-ready. Because these assets were discovered in EU and Asia-Pacific configurator code, Giga Shanghai is the likely first factory to ship vehicles with the refreshed interior.

As with the Model Y, retrofitting the new black headliner to a refreshed Model 3 will likely be possible, since mount points and clips are expected to remain the same. Verify compatibility before attempting an upgrade.

These changes are expected to appear in Tesla’s design studio for EU and Asia-Pacific markets within the next few days.
