Teslas Camera Previews Are Now Viewable While Driving

Multi-camera grid preview on Tesla display

Tesla vehicles include multiple cameras that supply Full Self-Driving (FSD) with visual input, yet the center display typically shows only a few views during everyday driving. Beyond the usual reverse camera or side repeater pop-ups, a diagnostic interface can present previews from all of the cars cameras.

Keeping Previews On Screen

A recent software behavior lets drivers keep a multi-camera grid visible even while the vehicle is moving. The grid utility was first introduced in software update 2023.20 about three years ago, but it used to be restricted to Parkwhen you shifted out of Park, the camera view would close.

The change was highlighted by X user @realwhitakerb, who shared a clip showing the display presenting live feeds from all nine cameras at regular road speeds. You can tap any camera feed to switch to full-screen, and tap the grid icon while in full-screen to return to the grid view.

Theres still a limitation on how to access it. You can open the feature via Controls > Service, but it can only be activated while parked. If you enable the interface before shifting into Drive, the layout stays on screen as you travel. You can dismiss the camera view at any time while driving, but you wont be able to bring it back until you stop and shift into Park again.

Better Monitoring for Self-Driving Hardware

This live diagnostic view is useful for checking real-world visibility on the spot. Instead of guessing which lens might be affected by grime or glare, drivers can confirm the performance of individual cameras directly.

The company has been focusing on camera visibility recently. For its FSD cameras, it made improvements to the low visibility alerts with FSD v14.3, providing clearer on-screen warnings when environmental factors interfere with the hardware. It also added a new camera cleaning guide to Service Mode to help drivers maintain the front-facing windshield lens.

Altogether, this unannounced software change offers a practical diagnostic tool. The full-screen interface displays a clean grid with nine simultaneous views, including the cabin view, side pillars, repeaters, rear, and the main forward lenses. While it still requires toggling on before you start driving, it can be handy for monitoring surroundings or demonstrating the system on a road trip.
