As the United States prepares to celebrate its 250th Independence Day this Saturday, a production version of the upcoming Cybercab robotaxi was spotted this week wearing a bold, patriotic wrap that pays tribute to the country and its manufacturing home of Texas.
Longtime Tesla watcher and prolific Full Self-Driving user @DavidMoss shared a video on X after seeing the car in Austin, Texas. Tesla enthusiast and drone operator @JoeTegtmeyer also saw the same custom-wrapped Cybercab and posted additional views of the vehicle at rest.

I just spotted this on the streets of Austin, TX with an incredible patriotic/Texas themed wrap.
Any guesses on what Tesla must have in store for this 4th of July Independence Day? pic.twitter.com/4jJRE1hk3a
A Closer Look at the Patriotic Design
Close-up views highlight intricate artwork. Along the sides, the wrap combines a weathered, industrial texture with stars and stripes. The iconic concluding line of the national anthem, “Land of the free and home of the brave,” is printed boldly across the doors against an American flag backdrop.
The front hood and bumper feature aggressive shark teeth inspired by the military nose art found on classic warplanes like the A-10. A Lone Star emblem appears on each of the aerodynamic gold wheel covers, representing Texas, where Tesla is ramping up Cybercab mass production at Gigafactory Austin. A prominent “Made in Texas” logo shaped like the state outline is also stamped on the sides and the rear.
The roof is completely covered by the U.S. flag, with stars and stripes stretching across its entirety. A Cybertruck with a similar 250th birthday wrap was also spotted in the area.
Testing With a Human Touch
The video also revealed an interesting hardware detail: this wrapped unit had a physical steering wheel and a human safety driver actively operating the controls. Tesla began Cybercab mass production in April and is now deep into road testing. Early validation builds retain manual driving controls such as a steering wheel and pedals, but the ultimate goal is to remove them entirely. Earlier this week, Tesla started testing steering wheel-less Cybercabs on public roads in Austin to prepare for fully autonomous operations.
These custom-wrapped vehicles build excitement ahead of the weekend. Tesla is also known for offering limited-time promotions around the Fourth of July. Last summer, buyers received free paint upgrades for red, white, and blue exterior options, saving up to $2,500 per order. If that pattern continues, an announcement could arrive on Saturday morning. Last year’s promotion was announced on the 4th of July and ran for about 10 days.
