Tesla announced a Tesla Semi Rollout event on September 24 at its new dedicated factory in Sparks, Nevada. The invite-only gathering will mark the facility’s opening and will include factory tours and ride-alongs in the updated Tesla Semi. The timing follows several months of Semi production on the company’s new high-volume manufacturing line.
Tesla Semi Event
Invitations describe the occasion as a celebration of the Semi Factory’s opening in Sparks. Attendees will be able to tour the plant and take ride-alongs in the Semi. Each invitee may bring one guest, and RSVPs are due September 2. As with the upcoming Cybercab event, attendees must be at least 21 years old, and identification will be verified at entry.
The dedicated facility spans roughly 1.7 million square feet and is intended to eventually produce up to 50,000 Semis per year.
Tesla Semi Mass Production
Tesla announced the first Semi from its high-volume line on April 29. The production model differs considerably from the original Semi, adding electric steering assistance in place of the previous hydraulic system, upgraded actuators, a 48-volt electrical architecture, and 4680 battery cells designed for commercial-truck longevity. The truck also received a redesign that includes a new front light bar.
Europe and FSD
Tesla is preparing to reveal European specifications and launch plans at IAA Transportation in Hannover, Germany, which runs September 15 through September 20.
The Tesla Semi features 10 cameras, similar to other Tesla vehicles, and the company has confirmed the Semi will receive FSD in a future update.
Moving Beyond a Pilot
Tesla first unveiled the Semi in 2017, but production remained limited for years after initial customer deliveries began in 2022 to PepsiCo.
To support additional trucks, Tesla has begun expanding charging infrastructure. In July, the company opened the world’s first public Semi Megacharger site, and more Megacharger locations are in development.
The September 24 event is expected to provide a closer look at the Tesla Semi and its new factory.
