At the 2026 Abundance Summit, Elon Musk discussed topics beyond Tesla’s robotics, offering insight into his off-planet plans.

In a conversation with Peter Diamandis, he addressed restructuring between his aerospace and AI ventures, outlined a 10-year path for major lunar achievements, and voiced interest in a real-world Jurassic Park.

SpaceX’s Quiet Period

Diamandis congratulated Musk on the recent merger of SpaceX and xAI, calling it a "baller move" aimed at enabling orbital data centers and a first step toward a Dyson swarm.

Asked about timing for deploying space-based AI servers and their initial bandwidth, Musk demurred, citing regulatory constraints.

SpaceX is in the quiet period.

"I can't actually tell you things that would cause problems," Elon said. The remarks were presented as evidence that corporate restructuring and the financial merging of SpaceX and xAI are progressing behind the scenes.

10-Year Multi-Planetary Timeline

Even with the quiet period on orbital data centers, Musk forecast where humanity could be by the mid-2030s. Assuming current trends continue—and in the absence of a major geopolitical shock like World War III—he said he expects the global economy to expand tenfold over the next decade.

With that growth, he listed three milestones he expects within 10 years:

  • Establishing a permanent human base on the Moon.
  • Successfully landing people on Mars.
  • Building a mass driver on the lunar surface to launch payloads using electromagnetic acceleration.

He added that because Earth captures roughly one-billionth of the sun's energy, true superintelligence will ultimately need to move into the solar system to access the power required for unbounded scaling.

Mini Mammoths & Jurassic Park

Musk closed with a message to biotechnology. Aware that Colossal Biosciences CEO Ben Lamm would speak next, he encouraged efforts to bring back prehistoric species.

"I think it would be really cool to have a pet mini woolly mammoth," Elon laughed. "That'd be pretty epic."

He also said he would be first in line for a real-life Jurassic Park, "even if there was some risk of death."
