Halloween Mode Headed to Tesla FSD Branch Soon

Tesla owners using Full Self-Driving (Supervised) won’t need to cancel their subscriptions to get Halloween Mode in time for October 31. After an owner said on X they were ending their FSD subscription to receive the update earlier, Kalena Brown from Tesla’s AI team, who works on the FSD branch, responded that there’s “no need,” indicating it is coming soon to the FSD track.

This points to an upcoming FSD software update that will include Halloween Mode, so vehicles on the FSD release track won’t have to choose between staying on FSD or switching to the main branch.

Why FSD Owners Get New Features Later

Tesla develops new features on its main branch, while FSD releases are built on a separate code branch. After several months with an FSD subscription, vehicles are typically moved to the FSD release track. That track delivers the newest FSD builds first, but feature releases arrive only after they are merged into the FSD branch, which can take weeks or even about a month.

Halloween Mode began rolling out on the main branch with software update 2026.38.3. Separately, Tesla recently started rolling out FSD v14.3.11 in update 2026.33.5, which does not include Halloween Mode.

For timing context, Tesla began deploying this year’s Summer Update at the end of July, and it took nearly a month before that update was merged into the FSD branch and started reaching cars on the latest FSD builds.

Brown did not provide a release date.

What Halloween Mode Includes

Halloween Mode resides in the Toybox year-round. It transforms the car’s avatar into a glowing sheet ghost and overhauls the fullscreen parked visualization with a graveyard, a haunted house, a zombie hand rising from the ground, and jack-o'-lanterns. While driving, other cars glow green, pedestrians appear as skeletons, and the FSD path turns purple.

Trick or Treat plays spooky sounds and flickers the lights when visitors approach a parked car, though it disables Sentry Mode while active. The update also brings themed custom wraps, a Halloween lock sound, owl-hooting turn signals, a new Fright Show light show, Photobooth effects, a scary new Boombox voice, and more.
