This is a render of what Live Activities-style rich Tesla notifications could look like on Android

Live Activities-style charging updates are coming to Android

Owners on iOS have had Live Activities for some time, providing real-time Supercharging and Robotaxi updates directly on the lock screen. Android users have not had an equivalent, but a recent review of the Tesla mobile app indicates that a comparable experience is approaching.

Code Drops Clues

A decompile of version 4.58.0 of the Tesla app, which started rolling out this week, reveals strings and references related to Live Activities-style real-time charging notifications on Android. On Googles platform, the capability is called Live Updates and debuted with Android 16 last year.

The backend includes several keys that align with what iOS users already see:

  • android_native_charging_notif_channel_desc
  • android_native_charging_notif_charge_level_distance
  • android_native_charging_notif_fee_estimated
  • android_native_charging_notif_trip_ready_to_continue_trip

In the app, these appear as:

  • "Live updates while your vehicle is charging"
  • "Charge: %1$d %2$s"
  • "Estimated: %1$s"
  • "Ready to continue trip"

These entries indicate a dedicated Android notification channel for ongoing charging status. Instead of pulling down the notification shade or opening the app, users will be able to glance at the lock screen or status bar to see current range, time remaining for a full charge, and estimated Supercharger fees.

Expanding Features Beyond iOS

Tesla introduced Live Activities on iOS in May 2025, enabling dynamic tracking of Supercharging progress. On Apple devices, the feature is also used when ordering a ride in the Robotaxi app. With the Robotaxi app finally available on Android earlier this spring, Live Updates on Android is expected to also support ride status when the feature becomes available, bringing identical functionality to both ecosystems.

This discovery fits a broader pattern of groundwork for future capabilities in the mobile app. Another Tesla app update, version 4.57.5, added backend code for home heat pump control. Like that climate-related capability, these rich, persistent notifications for Android are not mentioned in the official release notes.

Live Updates for Android do not appear to be active in the current Tesla app build. Tesla often ships dormant code in production releases weeks or months before enabling it server-side or via a subsequent update. Given that the code for this feature is already in place, Android users likely will not have to wait long for a more accessible, real-time view of charging sessions (and more).
