Tesla Extends Cybertruck PCS Warranty to 8 Years, Will Reimburse Owners for Repairs

Tesla is officially addressing Power Conversion System (PCS) failures affecting many Cybertrucks. The company is extending warranty coverage for the PCS to eight years or 150,000 miles and preparing to reimburse owners who previously paid for related repairs.

Tesla is informing affected customers through Tesla Service, noting that the extended coverage applies even after the Cybertruck’s four-year / 50,0000-mile Basic Vehicle Limited Warranty expires.

Extended PCS Coverage

On July 29th, a senior Tesla Service executive indicated that official communication regarding the PCS was imminent.

“FYI, official communication launching soon to Cybertruck owners on PCS. We’ll be extending warranty coverage for it and reimbursing owners that have already paid.”

The executive added that backend changes were still being finalized, but that Tesla was working toward a resolution for customers. The following day, Tesla Service began sharing additional details, and impacted owners started receiving messages about extended warranty coverage for PCS2 repairs and diagnostics.

The new coverage aligns the PCS2 with the Cybertruck’s high-voltage battery and drive-unit warranty: eight years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. Tesla’s existing Basic Vehicle Limited Warranty lasts four years or 50,000 miles. This change reduces exposure to out-of-warranty repair costs for early Cybertruck owners, especially high-mileage drivers.

Tesla Acknowledges an Updated Part Revision

Service communications acknowledge that earlier Cybertrucks use a PCS2 design that could benefit from improved long-term reliability. Tesla is now on Revision G of the design, and many vehicles on the road with earlier revisions, as late as Revision F, require replacement.

Tesla will also begin proactively replacing older PCS units. “We have identified an opportunity to improve the long-term reliability of the PCS2 on earlier Cybertruck models. Newer vehicles already feature an updated part revision designed for improved performance.”

The messaging stops short of labeling the issue a defect, and no recall has been announced. It remains unclear whether all Cybertrucks with the earlier revision will receive a proactive replacement or whether Tesla will prioritize vehicles showing diagnostic warnings or other indications of an impending failure. However, with the extended warranty, owners no longer need to hope for a failure before the original 50,000-mile coverage expires.

Reimbursements are Coming

Tesla has confirmed that owners who previously paid out of pocket for PCS repairs will be reimbursed.

Some high-mileage owners received repair estimates in the thousands of dollars after their Basic Vehicle Limited Warranty had lapsed. Tesla later reduced those invoices to $1,000 through goodwill adjustments, though owners still incurred costs tied to hardware issues. Tesla has not confirmed how reimbursements will be processed.

What’s the Problem?

The Power Conversion System integrates several key power-electronics functions, including converting AC electricity from a Wall Connector or Level 2 charger into DC electricity for the high-voltage battery. It also supports the Cybertruck’s 48-volt electrical architecture.

When part of the system fails, owners commonly lose the ability to charge at home and to power devices from the truck’s outlets. DC charging at Superchargers usually continues to work because power is delivered directly to the battery, bypassing the PCS.

Still No Extended Cybertruck Warranty

While Tesla is extending the PCS warranty to match that of the high-voltage battery pack, it has not yet launched an extended warranty program for the Cybertruck, nearly three years after its launch.

Tesla has now also extended the drivetrain warranty for the Cybertruck to seven years.
