Austin Robotaxi Now Runs To 11 p.m.; 169 Cybercabs After 111 Added

Tesla has extended Robotaxi operating hours in Austin by one hour. Service now runs until 11 p.m., up from 10 p.m. The official Robotaxi account announced the change on X, and Elon Musk confirmed the updated closing time.
One More Hour, But Not 24/7 Yet
In August, Tesla expanded Robotaxi hours to 6 a.m. through 10 p.m. The latest update adds one more hour at night. Tesla is still targeting 24/7 Robotaxi operations as early as this month, coinciding with the release of FSD v15 on Robotaxi vehicles, indicating a cautious ramp.
Musk said the main hurdle for nighttime driving is identifying and avoiding pets and other animals so the system can handle “grey kittens on grey tarmac in the dark,” and that Tesla is being “extremely careful with autonomous safety.”
Austin’s Cybercab Fleet Keeps Growing
The Cybercab fleet is expanding faster than the service hours. During the week of September 21, registered Cybercabs rose from 58 on Monday to 125 by Friday, according to Texas DMV data. That week, an app notification to riders in Austin said the Cybercab fleet had doubled, and it surpassed 100 vehicles for the first time.
Momentum has continued: Tesla added 111 Cybercabs over the past two weeks, including 43 between October 1 and 2. The total registered to operate in Austin now stands at 169 — nearly four times the number at launch — and no major issues have been reported since rides began a month ago.

Where Could Cybercabs Go Next?
Austin remains the only Robotaxi market with commercial rides in steering wheel-less Cybercabs. With the fleet now exceeding 150 vehicles, Tesla may have enough active cars to consider a second city.
Houston and Dallas are leading candidates, since both are nearby and already offer unsupervised Model Y robotaxi rides. Miami is another possibility, where a large Cybercab nest was spotted in recent weeks.
In the coming weeks, watch whether Robotaxi hours extend further into the night, whether FSD v15 arrives in time to make 24/7 service official, and how many additional Cybercabs Tesla deploys in Austin before expanding to another city.
