Buyer's checklist
A bad adapter fails when you need it most. Check these 7 things first.
An adapter carries serious current for 20 to 40 minutes at a time, usually in the rain and usually when you are in a hurry. Here is the checklist we use, and how OmniVolt holds up against it.
- UL 2252 Listed
- 3-year warranty
- 30-day returns

Check seven things: a readable UL 2252 certificate, explicit DC fast-charging support, a built-in thermal cutoff, a sealed locking connector, solid copper conductors, a written warranty and a real return window.
If a listing can't show you most of those, keep looking. OmniVolt is built to this list, and the table below shows how.

What a safe adapter has to handle.
Why the numbers matter.
The 7-point safety checklist
Use it on any adapter, ours included. Each point ends with the sign to walk away.
A UL 2252 listing you can read
Look for UL 2252 or an equivalent listing, with the certificate available to read. A logo on a box is not the same as a certificate.
Walk away if: there is a logo but no certificate to look at.
- UL 2252
Markings on the connector face DC fast charging stated explicitly
Some listings only cover Level 2 AC charging. If you want to use fast chargers, the listing should say CCS1 DC fast charging and give a power rating.
Walk away if: it says "fast charging" and never says which kind or how fast.
- CCS1 DC up to 250 kW
A built-in thermal cutoff
Heat is the enemy at high current. A thermal cutoff stops charging before heat turns into damage, which is the safety net you want on a part you can't see.
Walk away if: heat protection is not mentioned at all.
See how OmniVolt lines up.UL 2252 Listed. Thermal cutoff. 3-year warranty.
Try OmniVoltA sealed, locking connector
The connector should click in firmly, not wiggle, and carry a weather rating. OmniVolt is IP67 sealed and rated for use from -30 C to 50 C.
Walk away if: there is no weather rating, or reviews mention a loose fit.
- IP67
- -30 to 50 C
Plugs into the charge port Thick copper conductors
Low resistance means less heat. Solid copper conductors are the reason a well-built adapter stays cool during a long session.
Walk away if: the listing is silent about what is inside.
A written warranty and a real return window
Terms should be written down before you pay. OmniVolt carries a 3-year warranty with free replacement if it fails, plus a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Walk away if: the terms are "contact the seller".
- 3-year warranty
- 30-day returns
Check both ends of the unit Support, manuals, and good habits
Look for a setup guide and someone to ask. Then build two habits: end the session on the screen or in the app before you unplug, and retire any adapter that is cracked, burnt or loose.
Walk away if: there is nobody to ask.
OmniVolt vs. the checklist

Safe or risky? The listing tells you.
You will not see inside an adapter before you buy it. These are the signs to look for on the listing instead.
A safe adapter:
- Readable UL 2252 certificate
- Built-in thermal cutoff
- Sealed, locking connector
A risky one:
- No certificate you can check
- Thin conductors that run hot
- No warranty or return window

Check your Tesla in 30 seconds
Most Teslas built in the last several years can charge at CCS1 stations through an adapter. Confirm yours in the car.

- Vehicle infoOpen Additional Vehicle Information.
- CCS supportLook for CCS Adapter Support. “Enabled” means you are ready.
Teslas built before about 2020 may need a one-time hardware retrofit from Tesla for CCS1 fast charging. J1772 Level 2 charging does not need it.
Questions, answered
Is UL 2252 required for an EV adapter?
It is the certification we look for. Ask to see the certificate, not just a logo.
Can I unplug the adapter while charging?
Stop the session on the screen or in the app first. Disconnecting under load is hard on the contacts.
Does the adapter work with my Tesla?
Check Controls, Software, Additional Vehicle Information for CCS Adapter Support. J1772 Level 2 does not need it.
How long does shipping take?
Shipping is free in the U.S., with delivery in 7 to 15 business days.
Buy the adapter that passes the checklist.
Build quality is the whole point of an adapter. OmniVolt is built to the list above.
