Tesla’s commercial ride-hailing service currently operates on fixed schedules in active markets, but 24/7 driverless trips are expected soon. Tesla’s next-generation Full Self-Driving (FSD) v15 is the enabler, according to the company’s VP of AI, Ashok Elluswamy.
The update came when Ashok Elluswamy (@aelluswamy) replied on X to a question from community member @wholemars about when Robotaxi rides would be available around the clock.

That guidance implies an October rollout for the commercial fleet. During Tesla’s Q2 earnings call, executives said some Robotaxi vehicles are already running early builds of FSD v15, which include seven major architectural changes over the v14 stack. Elluswamy’s latest remarks suggest those limited trials could soon unify into a fleet-wide release.
From night-only trips to full-day service
Tesla has been expanding Robotaxi operations and geofences in markets such as Austin, Dallas, Houston, the Bay Area, and Miami. Although unsupervised Robotaxi night rides began earlier this spring, gaps in scheduling still leave certain hours offline.
That gap may close quickly now that Cybercabs have officially joined the Robotaxi fleet starting in Austin. Pairing the purpose-built two-seater with retrofitted Model Ys provides the vehicle density needed to sustain true 24/7 availability.

FSD v15 will run on both platforms. Tesla has said that current-generation Hardware 4 (HW4/AI4) has sufficient compute to support FSD v15 and unsupervised self-driving, while production Cybercabs include an even more capable FSD computer.
Under the hood, FSD v15 represents a substantial upgrade, potentially larger than the jump from v13 to v14. Elluswamy recently outlined a move to a 10-billion-parameter neural network that enables earlier hazard forecasting, faster reactions, better collision avoidance, and more.
What fleet validation means for the consumer rollout
Enabling FSD v15 across commercial vehicles is also a key step before broadening Robotaxi service to additional regions. Tesla has indicated it will wait for FSD v15 before expanding Robotaxi at scale, so this branch could determine how quickly the driverless network reaches new metropolitan areas.
The commercial rollout also benefits everyday owners by supplying developers with extensive real-world driving data to refine the software.
If driverless Robotaxis shift to v15 next month without issues, Tesla’s goal of delivering FSD v15 to consumer HW4 vehicles late this year or early next year remains within reach.
