Tesla Plans App Update to Improve Android Foldable Experience

Tesla’s big-screen app behaves as intended on iPads and iPhone Duo, but some Android foldable owners aren’t seeing the expanded interface when expected. Tesla says a remedy is in progress.
Tesla recently released a dedicated version of its app for iPad, iPhone Duo, and Android tablets and foldables. Before that change, these devices displayed a scaled-up phone interface that didn’t fully utilize the additional screen space.
The Problem With Foldables
On Apple hardware, Tesla only contends with a small set of screen sizes and aspect ratios. Android, however, spans eight years’ worth of foldables and even more tablets, making universal layout tuning more challenging.
@FCastrillo86 posted a video demonstrating the behavior on a Pixel 10 Pro Fold: the app appears normal on the outer screen, but upon unfolding, the phone layout simply stretches to fill the inner display. Only after rotating the unfolded device to landscape does the app switch to the new big-screen view, with controls on the left and a large vehicle visualization on the right.
He said the new UI is great but “doesn’t feel cohesive when the layout split runs perpendicular to the screen crease,” and asked Tesla to allow the new layout in both orientations. Other users echoed the issue, noting that even on an almost square (1:1 aspect ratio) display they had to rotate to trigger the new view.
Tesla Is On It
Tesla UI engineer Alex Guichet addressed the reports on X. “Android is quite varied!” he said. “There are so many devices that it’s impossible to test them all.” He added that “we’re going to continue to test and refine screen size breakpoints in a future release.”
Tesla already updated the big-screen app shortly after launch, which also brought the new FSD referral program. While it isn’t feasible to optimize the layout for every Android foldable and tablet immediately, more improvements are planned. With X Money payments also on the way, upcoming app releases are expected to be active. Until the layout fix rolls out, Android foldable owners can rotate their unfolded device to landscape to access the big-screen view.
