Tesla has officially concluded the run of the two vehicles that helped launch the modern electric vehicle movement. On Tuesday, May 20, a handover celebration was held at the Fremont factory in California. Although the event was postponed from its original date and began over an hour late, the Model S and Model X Signature Edition delivery event marked the close of a legacy spanning more than a decade.

Exclusive “Garnet Red” Paint and Design Differences
To cap the story, Tesla added bespoke elements to the final 350 Signature Edition Model S and Model X units. The exterior is finished in a deeper, glossier “Garnet Red,” paired with a premium white Alcantara interior.
Unique cosmetic details distinguish these cars: a gold Plaid badge on the rear, a “Signature” applique on the liftgate, gold Plaid badging integrated into the seats, and a gold Tesla T badge on the front carbon fiber fascia. The Signature Edition also features body-color door handles instead of the standard black, distinctive gold-colored brake calipers, and special Plaid puddle lights.
Inside, there are custom Signature door sills and a dashboard badge confirming the car is one of only 250 (or 100 for the Model X SE). Buyers also receive a unique Signature Edition keyfob.

Bespoke VINs and Backlit Cabin Customization
These six-figure collector cars were offered via an invite-only purchasing arrangement that originally launched to select buyers last month. Priced at $159,420 for both body styles, every order is a high-performance Plaid variant equipped with Tesla’s ultra-premium Luxe Package, which includes free Full Self-Driving, lifetime Supercharging, and more perks.
Personalization extends into vehicle telemetry. Each car carries a bespoke VIN structure that encodes the vehicle’s exact sequence number within the limited run. In the cabin, the signature series plate on the dashboard reads "1 of 250" or "1 of 100" and is fully backlit. The vehicle also shows a unique Signature Edition badge in the official Tesla mobile app.


Signature Welcome Animations
The software extras appear as soon as the vehicle powers on. As highlighted by @BLKMDL3 on X, "Signature Model S and Model X Plaid get special welcome animations on the UI, and they’re even VIN specific."
When the primary touchscreen wakes, it replaces the standard startup graphic with a cinematic sequence: the classic Tesla logo appears in gold, then transitions into a gold-etched "Signature" script that includes the car’s exact placement out of 250 or 100 units. The vehicles also feature a special interior lighting sequence.

Making Room for the Optimus Era
This delivery cycle’s conclusion reflects a major shift in Tesla’s manufacturing footprint. The company officially closed standard consumer orders for the Model S and Model X at the end of March to clear remaining backlogs. In recent weeks, the final Signature units filled outbound logistics lots at Fremont as the lines completed their last passes.

During the delivery event, Tesla showed early footage of its pilot Optimus production line operating inside the Fremont facility. Production teams are actively dismantling and repurposing the floor space previously used by the legacy flagship lines. The factory area is being converted to support mass manufacturing for the Optimus humanoid robot.
