In a two-continent update last week, Tesla expanded the budget-focused Model Y Standard into additional markets. In Canada the vehicle is positioned as a tariff-free, more affordable option, while in Europe Tesla introduced a variant designed to maximize range for longer trips and commercial use.
The $50K Berlin Special
Tesla has launched the Model Y Standard in Canada with a starting price of $49,990 CAD. To offer that competitive entry point without incurring the 100% surcharge applied to Chinese-made electric vehicles or running into cross-border complications with the United States, Tesla is importing these cars from Giga Berlin.
At $49,990 CAD the Model Y Standard is roughly $15,000 less than the Model Y Premium AWD, about $3,000 cheaper than the Ford Mache base model, and approximately $1,000 more than the Kia EV6 base model. Because it qualifies for provincial incentives in Canada, the Berlinsourced Model Y Standard becomes a strong value proposition for buyers.
The Model Y Standard Trim
The Standard is Teslas new base Model Y with a simplified feature set compared with the Premium trims. Key differences include:
- Fabric seats
- 7speaker audio system
- Manual steering column adjustment
- No rear screen, no ambient lighting, no direct TPMS
- No Autopilot only TrafficAware Cruise Control (TACC)
- Simplified acoustic glass
Details of what changed in the Model Y Standard are summarized in the Model Y Standard comparison. Notably, although these Canadian models are built in Europe, they do not include Autopilot, similar to the European Model Y Standard.
Standard Long Range
In Europe Tesla also introduced the Model Y Standard Long Range, which pairs the larger battery used in Premium cars with the lighter, simplified feature set of the Standard trim. By removing some premium interior components and the front motor, this rearwheeldrive variant achieves an impressive 657 km WLTP range (approximately 400 miles EPA).
Pricing for this trim varies by country and currency but typically sits between about 1% and 10% less than the Premium Long Range RWD, offering a compromise for buyers who prioritize maximum range over premium interior features like ventilated seats or rear screens.
Marine Blue Arrives in North America
Tesla introduced the Marine Blue paint option in Europe in October 2025, and because the Model Ys coming to Canada are being produced at Giga Berlin, Canadian paint offerings have shifted to match. Marine Blue replaces the older Deep Blue Metallic and is offered at the same $1,300 CAD price point.
This color is available only on Premium and Performance trims and is not offered on the Model Y Standard.
