Tesla Hits $546 Million in Annual Recurring Revenue from FSD Subscriptions

During the Q1 2026 earnings call, Tesla provided a detailed update on adoption of its Full Self-Driving software. The newly released slide deck indicates that the driver-assistance suite has become a significant software business, surpassing half a billion dollars in annual recurring revenue.
Subscription Boom
According to the official figures in the deck, Tesla currently has 476,100 active FSD subscribers. At this adoption level, the company is generating $546 million per year in recurring subscription revenue.
Outright Purchases and Total Reach
While subscriptions have driven recent growth, the legacy purchase option still represents most active users. The Q1 slide deck states that 823,900 owners have purchased the FSD suite outright.
Combining outright purchases with the active subscription base, Tesla reports 1.3 million paid FSD customers globally. This fleet is actively gathering localized driving data, validating edge cases, and training the neural networks.
Purchases also include vehicles in regions where FSD is not currently available, such as China, the UK, and most European countries.
Funding the Future
Software revenue is important for Tesla’s long-term financials. Unlike physical vehicle sales, which are affected by supply chains, raw material costs, and manufacturing capacity, software subscriptions typically carry higher profit margins.
The $546 million recurring revenue stream is positioned to support the company’s upcoming initiatives. Earlier this year, Musk announced that FSD subscription prices will rise as capabilities increase. As outlined during the earnings call, Tesla is expecting $25 billion in capital expenditures for 2026 to fund its Cortex 2 supercomputer, new manufacturing facilities, and the expansion of its uncrewed commercial fleets.
Continued growth in the FSD subscription base would provide additional software cash flow to support these investments.
