Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) is now available in Europe, and early testers report that the experience differs from North America. Following the landmark approval from the Dutch Vehicle Authority (RDW) last week, the company quickly began deploying the software on public roads.
Footage and screenshots from Dutch owners such as Kees Roelandschap (@KRoelandschap) highlight features unique to the European build, from new speed controls to stricter safety requirements.
The Netherlands Leads with v14.2.2.5
While North American owners recently started receiving FSD v14.3, the version currently rolling out in the Netherlands is v14.2.2.5, delivered via software update 2026.3.6. This specific build was likely used during regulatory testing with the RDW. For now, the rollout targets Hardware 4 (AI4) vehicles first.
The software can drive almost everywhere with minimal input, but it is not autonomous and requires a fully alert driver. This launch in the Netherlands is seen as the first domino to fall; because many EU countries look to the Dutch RDW for automotive regulation, a broader expansion across the continent is likely close.
Contextual Max Speed
Europe’s build introduces a setting called Contextual Max Speed, which adjusts pace based on surroundings rather than a fixed number. According to the in-car description, "When contextual max speed is enabled, the system will make adjustments to your max speed setting dynamically based on visual context."
It can increase speed to match natural traffic flow or avoid accelerating where it would be unsafe. Roelandschap noted the speed offset can be set as high as 50%, giving the system substantial latitude on European motorways.
Out of View Traffic Lights Warning
Because traffic lights in Europe are sometimes positioned where cameras—or drivers—may not see them when stopped close to the intersection, FSD v14.2.2.5 shows a new notice: “Traffic light may be out of view. Please pay attention.”
This is one of several tailored UI features aimed at meeting strict local laws. The visuals clarify what the car can and cannot see, helping bridge the gap between driver intuition and neural network perception in dense, historic city centers.
A New Stats Page and Mandatory Safety Quiz
European owners receive a new FSD Stats page that displays a daily streak, monthly usage data, and an overall usage percentage.
Before enabling the software, Dutch owners must pass a mandatory safety quiz. After watching a dedicated tutorial video, they answer questions to confirm they understand the system’s limitations. This onboarding is stricter than in the U.S. and underscores the focus on satisfying regional safety regulators.
Subscriptions and Purchase Options
Alongside the rollout, Tesla has launched FSD subscriptions in the Netherlands, letting owners try the feature month to month without paying the full purchase price. The company still offers a one-time purchase option in the country, a choice recently discontinued in North America in favor of a pure subscription or monthly payment model.
The arrival of FSD in the Netherlands marks a new chapter. While the software remains "Supervised," the localization and rollout pace suggest readiness for Europe’s complex roads, with a “domino effect” expected across the European Union.
