Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) is gaining momentum. According to the company’s Q2 2026 earnings report, active users of FSD (Supervised) have reached 1.48 million worldwide.
On the earnings call, Tesla said that in North America about 55% of Q2 deliveries had an FSD subscription enabled at the time of delivery. The company also noted that 55% of customers chose an upfront purchase while 45% opted for subscriptions, and it expects most future monetization growth to come from subscriptions after removing the purchase option in most markets.
A Rapid Growth Trajectory
Adoption has risen steadily each year: 400,000 paid users in 2021, 500,000 in 2022, 600,000 in 2023, 800,000 in 2024, and more than 1.1 million by the end of 2025.
Active users increased from 1.28 million in Q1 2026 to 1.48 million in Q2 2026. From 0.95 million in Q2 2025 to 1.48 million in Q2 2026, Tesla recorded a 56% year-over-year increase in total FSD subscribers.
Tesla said that more than half of all new vehicle deliveries in North America during Q2 had FSD subscriptions enabled at delivery. With 9.7 million total lifetime vehicle deliveries, the FSD take-rate reached 15.2% this quarter, up from nearly 14% in Q1.
Of the 1.48 million active users, 55% purchased the software upfront and 45% are subscribers. That equates to roughly 666,000 active monthly subscribers. At $99 per month (Tesla has said the FSD subscription price will go up as the system approaches unsupervised autonomy), the annualized recurring FSD revenue is $791.2 million, up from $546 million in the first quarter.
Strategic Changes to Drive Adoption
Earlier this year, Tesla removed Basic Autopilot from new vehicle orders, leaving standard traffic-aware cruise control as the base feature and steering buyers toward FSD for lane-keeping capabilities. The company also removed the one-time FSD purchase option in the U.S. and began doing so in other regions, making the $99 monthly subscription the primary entry point.

Global expansion is contributing as well, with rollout momentum especially strong in Europe. Officially launching FSD in China, one of Tesla’s largest markets, could tap a significant pool of potential subscribers.
One operational goal in Elon Musk’s $1 trillion compensation package requires maintaining 10 million active FSD subscribers for three consecutive months. With 1.48 million users today, Tesla is nearly 15% of the way to that target. As international expansion continues and FSD’s capabilities improve, subscriber growth could accelerate.
