Tesla Deploys NA-2026.38 Maps Across North America

Tesla has begun releasing a new navigation map package, NA-2026.38, to vehicles in North America, arriving much sooner than usual. Several Tesla owners reported on X that their cars started downloading NA-2026.38 just over two months after the previous NA-2026.26 maps update began rolling out in August.
Tesla’s map packages use a year.week versioning format, so the move from week 26 to week 38 indicates map data that’s about three months newer. Tesla typically releases map updates about twice a year. The last update advanced from NA-2025.44, bringing data that was nearly a year newer.
What’s in a Tesla Maps Update
These updates go beyond new points of interest and recently built roads. They also add lane guidance, speed limit data, and road geometry, which support the navigation system, driver assistance features, and Full Self-Driving (Supervised).
As with prior packages, there’s no notification when NA-2026.38 is ready. The car downloads it quietly over Wi‑Fi, and you can check progress under Controls > Software. Because the packages are several gigabytes, they won’t download over cellular. If home Wi‑Fi is weak, a Tesla Service Center, some Supercharger locations, or a phone hotspot can help. Rollout is gradual, so not every vehicle will receive it immediately.

Could It Help FSD Navigation?
Updated map data is relevant to FSD, which relies on onboard speed limit information and road details to plan maneuvers. A Tesla AI engineer recently reiterated that FSD navigation improvements and pothole detection are on the way, including smarter routing that learns from your preferred routes instead of taking odd side‑street detours.
Given how soon this update follows the last one, it’s possible the refresh supports those FSD changes. Tesla hasn’t confirmed any connection. Clarity should come as new FSD builds roll out and the improvements arrive in a point release or with FSD v15. For now, keep the vehicle connected to Wi‑Fi so it can download NA-2026.38 as soon as it’s available.
