Tesla has confirmed a forthcoming Cybercab launch event, aligning with reports that the purpose-built Cybercab could begin Robotaxi service before the end of August. The company is also giving Robotaxi riders an opportunity to attend.
Tesla Cybercab Launch Event
Tesla announced the event via its Robotaxi X account, launching a contest for ride-hail passengers.
According to Tesla’s post, riders through August 23 will have a chance to receive an invitation to the Cybercab launch event. Each completed ride increases a rider’s chances. Winners are scheduled to be announced on August 25.
While this is the first mention of a Cybercab event, details remain limited. Tesla has not revealed the date or location. Based on reporting and the contest timeline, the event is expected in Austin at the end of August or in early September.
The Information reported that Tesla is preparing to introduce Cybercab to the public in Austin as soon as August. Previous reports indicated that employee Cybercab rides would begin soon, with public access to follow.
Stockpiling Cybercabs
Tesla has already been producing Cybercabs at Gigafactory Texas, and large groups of vehicles have appeared in multiple areas outside Austin. Recent sightings include more than 100 Cybercabs in Dallas, and other smaller fleets have been spotted in several locations around the U.S.
The service could expand beyond Austin relatively quickly after launch. Musk previously announced that Tesla’s robotaxi plans would not expand significantly until FSD v15, which the Cybercab will likely run.
Cybercab Gets More Powerful FSD Hardware
Under the surface, Cybercab differs from Tesla’s current Model Y Robotaxi fleet. Production Cybercabs use a more powerful FSD computer with more memory than current hardware 4 vehicles. It’s unclear whether they’re running AI5 or AI4+, but it’s likely one of the two upcoming hardware versions.
FSD v15 includes roughly 10 times as many parameters as current FSD builds. Cybercab’s additional computing resources could provide more headroom for Tesla’s next-generation FSD models.
Cybercab Features Unique Hardware
The Cybercab is distinct from consumer models and likely includes more than is currently known. Confirmed elements include camera washers on all exterior cameras, an integrated Starlink antenna, and more powerful FSD hardware.
Given Tesla’s typical rollout cadence, a broad, immediate launch is unlikely. However, with production underway and vehicles already appearing across several states, a rapid expansion to additional regions could follow shortly after an Austin debut.
For now, the key takeaway is that a Cybercab launch event is planned, likely in late August or early September.
