Tesla Confirms FSD v14 Lite International Release
Owners of older Hardware 3 (HW3/AI3) Tesla vehicles outside the United States have reason for optimism. Tesla began deploying Full Self-Driving (Supervised) v14 Lite to early access HW3 testers in the U.S. this week with software update 2026.20.5.1, prompting questions from international owners about whether they would be excluded.
There is now direct confirmation that an overseas expansion is planned. In a post from the official @Tesla account on X, the team announced: "Following future rollout of FSD V14 Lite for HW3 vehicles in the US, we plan on expanding V14 Lite to additional international markets." Tesla had previously suggested a wider release and has now affirmed that plan following the initial deployment.
The FSD V14 Lite Roadmap
This marks the first FSD update for legacy HW3 vehicles in roughly 14 months. FSD v14 Lite is a distilled build that delivers the same capabilities as, and nearly the entire feature set of, the main v14 branch in a model that AI3 computers can run. With AI3 hardware offering just 15% of the memory bandwidth of AI4, compressing FSD v14 to operate on these older systems required significant optimization. Initial feedback from FSD v14 Lite testers points to major gains in smoothness, performance, and decision-making.

Bringing FSD v14 Lite to additional countries will take time. "Since international rollout is subject to several factors (completion of technical verification, regional adaptation & relevant regulatory approvals), we can't provide definitive dates at the moment, but will provide updates on a rolling basis," Tesla noted. In many overseas markets, Tesla initially sought regulatory approval only for newer AI4 hardware, leaving older HW3 computers out of the first wave of filings.
Canada and Other North American Markets
Canada is a strong candidate for the first international phase of FSD v14 Lite, as it is one of only two countries outside the U.S. to have previously approved FSD for HW3 vehicles. Nearby regions in the North American cluster, including Mexico and Puerto Rico, will likely wait a bit longer while localized optimization is completed.
Europe
As of now, five European countries have approved FSD (Supervised) for local roads:
The Netherlands
Lithuania
Estonia
Denmark
Belgium
With these countries moving directly to FSD v14 and European HW3 owners already organizing a collective action against Tesla for being excluded from the rollout, Tesla might prioritize delivering FSD v14 Lite in the EU.
China
While Tesla deployed FSD to some HW3 and HW4 vehicles in China last year, a broader release has since been stalled by local data regulations. The company is working to relaunch FSD in the region with FSD v14 and reportedly under a new name.
South Korea
South Korea became the first market outside North America to receive FSD v14. With an active fleet of roughly 50,000 HW3 vehicles, it is a key target for FSD v14 Lite’s international rollout.
Oceania
Australia and New Zealand only recently started receiving FSD v14 earlier this month. The rollout even skipped specific vehicle models due to ongoing validation, suggesting it may take additional time before FSD v14 Lite arrives in these markets.
The Future of HW3
Because Tesla released FSD v14 Lite without specific version numbers, it does not appear that the distilled software will receive point releases or minor updates. Tesla has also confirmed that FSD v15 will only be available for AI4 and AI5 vehicles, so there will not be an "FSD v15 Lite." Leadership has also stated that HW3 will not be able to achieve true autonomy.
In the interim, FSD v14 Lite serves as a bridge to keep HW3 vehicles equipped with modern features until Tesla can offer hardware retrofits that enable unsupervised autonomy. Any future computer replacements will likely use next-generation AI4+ or AI5 chips, but owners should not expect these upgrades until late 2027 at the earliest.
