Guide · The 2026 Tesla owner report · Sponsored by Teslahubs

Ten things every Tesla owner should understand about their car in 2026

A Tesla is a great car with a few predictable weak spots. Know why they happen, and you can decide which ones are worth fixing on yours.

These are the ten problems we hear about most from Tesla owners, in three groups: comfort, screens, and wheels, light and power. For each one you get the cause in plain language, a quick check you can do on your own car, and the fix if you decide you want one.

Pick your model below and we will show only what fits your car. The fixes are Teslahubs products, and they carry Halloween Week prices until October 31. Some are down to their last few units.

What is your Tesla telling you?

Part 1 of 3

Comfort. Noise, heat, back seat.

Three problems with three different causes. Read why each one happens first, then see which fix matches.

Why a Tesla gets loud and hot.

Why is it loud at speed?

With no engine to mask it, you hear every bit of wind and road noise. Wind noise comes in through gaps around the door, window and trunk seals, and sealing those gaps is the quickest fix. Tire noise comes up through the floor.

Why does the cabin bake?

A glass roof lets sunlight in and a dark interior soaks it up. Tesla’s Cabin Overheat Protection runs the A/C once the cabin gets very hot, and that power comes from your battery. Blocking the sun costs less than cooling the air.

Why is the back seat so basic?

Many Model 3 and Model Y cars, up to about 2024, have no rear screen. Passengers in the back cannot change the climate, seat heat or music themselves, so someone in front does it for them.

Part 2 of 3

Screens. The ones Tesla forgot.

The center screen is the best part of the car, but it leaves out a few things drivers expect. Here is what is missing and how owners fill each gap.

What the screen cannot do.

Why no CarPlay?

Tesla does not offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Your phone reaches the car through Bluetooth for calls and audio, and that is all. That is why owners add a box that runs their phone apps on the main screen.

Why is there nothing behind the wheel?

Model 3 and Model Y show speed and alerts on the center screen, away from your line of sight. A small driver display puts speed, battery and blind spot alerts right behind the wheel.

Where does the phone go?

Without a mount, a phone slides around the seat or floor. A magnetic mount holds it steady where you can see it.

Wheels, light and power. The small things that add up.

Four small items that protect the car and the journey. Understand the cost of each problem before you decide.

Why small damage gets expensive.

What is curb rash?

Scuffing on the outer lip of the rim from a curb. It is cosmetic, but lease returns and resale buyers count it, and a factory wheel can cost over $1,000 to replace.

Why do calipers matter?

Brake calipers collect dust and rust, and on many Teslas they are visible through the spokes. Covers hide that and protect the finish.

Why do plugs strand people?

A Tesla needs an adapter for J1772 and CCS1 stations. Without one, the charger you reach on a road trip may not plug in at all. With one, it is a working stop.
