As Full Self-Driving (Supervised) v14 Lite reaches more owners, reports have emerged of problems during low-speed reversing.
After Tesla began the public rollout of FSD v14 Lite earlier this week, users shared videos showing the system having difficulty detecting objects behind the vehicle.
Reversing Issues Caught on Camera
Multiple drivers posted examples on X where the car failed to stop while backing up despite an obstacle in its path, resulting in low-speed contacts and near misses.

Another driver, @TexasTSLA, tested the new Start Self-Driving button to engage from Park, which required reversing out of a driveway. FSD v14 Lite began backing up while a person crouched behind the vehicle, and the driver disengaged when it showed no sign of stopping. “FSD 14 LITE ‘notably’ crashes into me. Time to issue a recall @Tesla_AI,” they said, later adding that “it will likely hit a human.”

User @WaitWhat observed similar behavior at a Supercharger, posting a clip of a Tesla slowly backing into a stall pillar. “This 14 Lite almost hit the supercharger in the same areas where mine hit the garbage can,” they said.

Because reversing is a low-speed maneuver, these events carry less risk than highway driving, but they still point to a clear bug that needs to be addressed.
Bridging the Gap for Legacy Hardware
FSD v14 Lite is a distilled, compressed version of the main v14 stack designed to bring newer capabilities to HW3 vehicles, which have about 15% of the memory bandwidth of Hardware 4 (HW4/AI4). Engineers fit most of the v14 feature set into these memory-constrained FSD computers, and the change appears to have affected reversing logic.
When FSD v14 Lite originally debuted last month, the rollout paused with early access testers and lacked identifiable version numbers, so follow-up updates weren’t anticipated. An updated version began rolling out earlier this week with new features and improvements, and leadership soon confirmed a wide release.
FSD v14 Lite serves as a stopgap for HW3 owners until hardware upgrades are available to enable unsupervised autonomy. Based on the pace of recent updates to this branch, an over-the-air fix for the reversing issue is expected once the team analyzes and resolves it.
