Tesla has begun installing standalone dashboard units in select showrooms. These pedestal-mounted setups feature a fully functional center display that supports climate control, navigation, and gaming via an attached Xbox controller, letting visitors try the interface without getting into a vehicle.

Reducing Friction
Sitting in a display car can feel like a commitment, and busy locations often mean waiting your turn. A pedestal-based screen lets people explore the touchscreen experience without opening a door or occupying a vehicle, making it easier for anyone who is simply curious.
Positioning the interface out in the open turns it into a casual, walk-up experience. Shoppers can tap through menus, play a game, or watch a theater clip much like they would try a device at a tech retail store.
This approach lowers the barrier for those who want to explore the software but may be hesitant to sit inside a car on the showroom floor.
User Experience as a Product
Many traditional automakers treat infotainment primarily as a necessary interface that often ends up clunky and slow, typically revealed only once a customer is already in the vehicle for a test drive.
By showcasing the system on its own, Tesla emphasizes that the infotainment and software experience is central, highlighting the attention devoted to the interface that drivers use to interact with the vehicle.
The displays currently only function in Park. Expanding them to present FSD visualizations or to walk through navigation and the Supercharging process could give prospective customers a useful demo without needing staff assistance or a scheduled test drive.
Add the Tesla App
Another potential enhancement would be a phone kiosk placed next to the display, allowing visitors to control climate, activate defrost, or view the vehicle’s location through the app.
Taken together, these showroom additions align with a technology-first message and invite people to explore the software ecosystem before considering the hardware, in a market where software strongly shapes the ownership experience.
